Is the 2023 BMW 7 Series a good car?

It’s a mixed but appealing flagship sedan if you value comfort and driving enjoyment more than tech simplicity. The user rating is 1/5, and our experts rate it 6.7/10; the expert score includes 8/10 for Performance and Safety.

The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.

The 2023 BMW 7 Series stands out for blending comfort, luxury, and performance in one package. It delivers a great ride quality and great handling, which broadens its appeal beyond the typical large luxury sedan that leans too far toward comfort alone. The trade-offs are clear: the styling has limited appeal, and the technology interface can be frustrating.

For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a refined flagship sedan that still feels engaging on the road. If you prioritize intuitive tech or universally appealing design, you may want to look elsewhere.

Good and great deals share: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 BMW 7 Series reliable?

The 2023 BMW 7 Series is presented as a premium luxury sedan with a strong comfort-and-performance balance, but its long-term ownership picture still depends heavily on condition and maintenance history. The expert review highlights a smooth, confidence-inspiring driving experience, and the standard safety and driver-assistance equipment is extensive.

The performance notes point to a refined powertrain and a composed chassis, while the tech and safety coverage suggest a highly equipped vehicle with advanced systems. The optional highway driving assistant is described as one of the better semi-automated systems available, and it can reduce fatigue on long trips.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that a complex flagship like this can become expensive if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 7 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage doesn’t replace a proper records review. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the electronics, driver-assistance features, and cabin condition, since this is a highly complex luxury sedan. Pay close attention to how the technology behaves in real use, especially if you plan to rely on the car’s advanced convenience features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard 740i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, while the 760i xDrive adds a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and all-wheel drive. The base trim is the better value if you want the strongest balance of price, comfort, and everyday performance.
• Powertrain: The 740i produces 375 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and BMW estimates 5.2 seconds to 60 mph. The 760i xDrive makes 536 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque and should reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, lane-keep assist, a traffic-sign reader, adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and safe exit warnings. The optional Driving Assistance Professional package adds a hands-free automated driving system for highways.
• Infotainment: iDrive 8 uses a touchscreen, a central console dial, and voice commands. The system is feature-rich, but deeper menus can be cumbersome, and the optional theater screen has some usability quirks.
• Fuel efficiency: The 740i is estimated to return 31 mpg in combined city and highway driving, while the 760i is estimated at 26 mpg.

Which 2023 BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 7 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 740i, 760i xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• 740i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 7 Series experience without paying for the V8 upgrade. It gives you the comfort, ride quality, and luxury focus that define the car, while also delivering the stronger efficiency figure in the lineup.
• 760i xDrive: Choose this if you want the most power and the quickest acceleration. It adds the V8 and all-wheel drive, but it’s the more expensive route and makes sense mainly if performance matters more to you than value.

The standard safety package includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, lane-keep assist, a traffic-sign reader, adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and safe exit warnings.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 7 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 736 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $60,797, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 7 Series' resale value?

The current average of $60,797 sits slightly below last year's $71,280.

That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can help you get into the car at a lower entry point. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale values to reflect the model’s softer pricing trend rather than its original sticker price.

If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value. But the current trend shows that this is not a model where you should expect especially strong short-term appreciation.

Is the 2023 BMW 7 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 7 Series has not been crash tested by either NHTSA or IIHS yet.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, lane-keep assist, a traffic-sign reader, adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and safe exit warnings. The optional Driving Assistance Professional package adds a hands-free automated driving system for highways, and the review notes that it works smoothly and helps reduce fatigue on long trips.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 7 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.71% compared with last year.
• The 2023 brings a redesigned flagship look, strong comfort, and great handling.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $67,192, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $60,797 average.
• It adds the plug-in hybrid 750e and a lightly updated infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and are comfortable with the 2023’s styling and tech compromises, this is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model’s added plug-in hybrid option and updated infotainment, the 2024 is the alternative to consider.
