Used 2022 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearPittsburgh, PA

How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 6.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,679 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Drivers consistently praise its safety, comfort, smooth ride, and quality feel, and many also like its stylish design. In everyday use, that lines up well with its family-focused mission and its spacious three-row layout for kids and gear.

The main trade-offs are its cramped third row and some complaints about the infotainment system and driver-seat comfort. Even so, the Highlander’s practical packaging and standard safety focus make it a strong fit if you want a family SUV that emphasizes ease of use over excitement.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting the Highlander’s reliability and comfort. The expert review also describes it as a vehicle that covers the basics well and is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

That combination makes it a reassuring used buy if you want a family SUV you can count on, though you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you’re considering, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the third row, infotainment operation, and the condition of the seats and cabin trim. Because this is a family SUV, interior wear and signs of heavy use matter just as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the most basic version, with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, three-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The LE adds LED fog lights, a smart key system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate, while the XLE adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, and a digital instrument-panel screen. The XSE adds unique exterior styling, ambient interior lighting, and a sport-tuned suspension, while the Limited and Platinum bring the most upscale equipment. The Limited is the best-value upscale choice if you want a strong mix of comfort and features without going all the way to the top trim.
• Powertrain: The Highlander uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. It feels strongest once it’s already moving, and it has enough passing power for highway use.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard, with forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, so that’s an important gap to note if you’re comparing lower trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, though a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configurations return 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The least-efficient versions return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you a lot of everyday usefulness, including an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, three-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra convenience and safety upgrades found higher up.
• LE: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like LED fog lights, a smart key system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate. It’s a sensible step up if you want more convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a strong mix of comfort and tech, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and a digital instrument-panel screen. It’s the sweet spot if you want the Highlander to feel more family-friendly and upscale without paying for the top trims.
• XSE: This trim leans into style with unique exterior treatment, ambient interior lighting, 20-inch wheels, a large mesh grille, dual exhaust tips, and a sport-tuned suspension. It suits you if you want the Highlander to look and feel a little more distinctive.
• Limited: This is the upscale comfort choice, with heated and ventilated front seats, genuine leather upholstery, acoustic noise-reducing windows, a wall-style power outlet, a hands-free power liftgate, and standard JBL audio. It’s a strong pick if you want a more premium family SUV.
• Platinum: This is the top trim, adding adaptive headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, a rearview camera mirror, and the larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Choose it if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,679 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,056, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $32,056 sits slightly below last year's $34,395.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to be realistic about asking prices. If the market continues to favor shoppers, resale values may stay under pressure unless the vehicle is especially well kept and well equipped.

Strong condition, clean history, and desirable trim content should matter more when you eventually sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, so lower trims leave you with fewer standard driver-assistance features.

The available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist systems are very active, and that can feel intrusive in some driving situations. If you’re sensitive to constant steering correction, that’s worth evaluating on a test drive.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a spacious family layout, a stout V6, and standard safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,403, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,056 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, space, and safety with strong name recognition.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market mix of inventory, pricing momentum, and family-friendly equipment. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you find one in clean condition with the features you want.
