How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid cost?

Prices have softened 2.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,054 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Highlander Hybrid options to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.

It fits best if you want a practical three-row SUV that prioritizes efficiency and value over style or luxury. The overview and expert notes both point to excellent fuel economy, accessible pricing, and a comfortable ride, while also making clear that this is not the choice for buyers who want something sporty or especially upscale.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance, uninspired styling, and interior materials that feel cheap. Even so, the Highlander Hybrid’s practical strengths make it a strong fit for family buyers who care more about everyday usefulness than flash.

36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Highlander Hybrid is presented as a practical, family-focused SUV with strong efficiency and a comfortable ride, which usually supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. Its hybrid powertrain is described as smooth enough for normal use, and the cabin is tuned more for comfort than for drama.

The performance notes also point to a quiet highway experience and a powertrain that works well for relaxed driving, even if it is not especially quick. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce the appeal by emphasizing the model’s fuel savings and the fact that the hybrid premium can pay back over time.

If you plan to keep the vehicle long term, the biggest ownership risk is that its modest performance and cheaper-feeling materials may matter more as mileage and wear add up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if the vehicle is advertised as clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, brakes, tires, and interior wear, since this model is aimed at family use and may have seen heavy daily-duty mileage.

Focus on whether the cabin shows signs of hard use, especially in the third row and other high-touch areas. You should also confirm that the driver-assistance features work properly and that the infotainment system responds as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE trim is the starting point, but the XLE is the sweet spot for budget-minded shoppers. Higher trims add more comfort and luxury touches, and the Limited and Platinum are the ones to consider if you want genuine leather and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with 243 horsepower, a CVT, and standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available, and the hybrid setup is tuned more for efficiency and calm everyday driving than for excitement.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are reserved for the top Platinum trim.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, while a 12.3-inch screen is available only on the top two trims. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa are included on all trims, and wireless charging starts with XLE.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is estimated to return 36 mpg in combined city/highway driving, which is the core reason to shop this version.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core hybrid efficiency and standard safety tech at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the lineup and do not need extra comfort features.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim. It adds the equipment most shoppers will actually notice day to day, and the cost-effectiveness notes specifically call it the sweet spot for budget buyers.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel. It adds genuine leather and other niceties that make the cabin feel more premium without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: This is the trim to buy if you want the most features, including the available surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights. It is the most complete version, but also the least budget-friendly.

A safety-package note: the surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are only offered in the top Platinum trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,054 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,837, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $35,361 sits slightly below last year's $36,408.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may slightly temper resale upside if you sell soon. Even so, the Highlander Hybrid’s strong efficiency and practical appeal should help it stay relevant with family shoppers.

Because it is a hybrid with broad everyday usefulness, demand should remain steadier than for more niche vehicles. If you keep it in good condition and maintain it well, you should have a reasonable path to a healthy resale outcome later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for frontal collision and rollover protection. The IIHS named the standard Highlander a Top Safety Pick+ and rated it Good across the board.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. A surround-view camera system and adaptive headlights are only offered in the top Platinum trim.

The main caveat is that some of the driver-assistance systems can feel a little overactive or not quite polished. The adaptive cruise control can brake late, the lane-keep assist can feel intrusive, and the lane-departure warning can trigger false alarms.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 emphasizes efficiency and value, with a quiet ride and practical three-row packaging.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,886, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $35,361 average.
• It adds a sporty XSE trim, improved headlights, and upgraded safety tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $38,985, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $35,361 average.
• It adds a quiet cabin, standard advanced safety features, and strong family-focused appeal.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of price, efficiency, and available inventory. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look for its lower average cost and useful updates.
