Used 2022 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearCornelius, NC

How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 8.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,521 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — with a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating, you’re looking at a well-regarded family SUV. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Drivers consistently praise its safety, comfort, smooth ride, quality, and stylish design. That lines up with the Highlander’s family-focused mission in the overview, where it’s positioned as a three-row SUV that balances versatility with everyday usability.

The trade-offs are familiar: the third row is cramped, and the infotainment system can feel dated. Even so, the market signal is favorable, with 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on safety, comfort, and a smooth ride.

The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the Highlander as a vehicle that covers the basics well and provides the kind of practical, family-hauling usability buyers can count on. It also notes Toyota’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers.

For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is less about the core mechanical package and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone doesn’t tell you how the SUV was maintained or repaired. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the third row, infotainment system, and driver’s seat comfort, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. Focus on overall condition and feature content, especially if you want the best mix of comfort and convenience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L trim gives you the essentials, including an 8-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, pushbutton start, proximity/remote keyless entry, and five USB ports. Higher trims add meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades, with the XLE bringing heated front seats, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, and a power moonroof, while the Limited and Platinum move further upscale with leather, premium audio, and more advanced amenities.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. It’s strongest once you’re already moving, and it feels more confident at highway speeds than off the line.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard, with forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, so that’s an important gap to watch for.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a WiFi hotspot. It does not offer wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, though the layout is straightforward and supported by hard buttons. A larger 12.3-inch screen is available on upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configurations return 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, while the least-efficient AWD L, LE, and XLE models return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you a strong equipment base with the standard touchscreen, three-zone climate control, five USB ports, and the core safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features found higher up.
• LE: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like LED fog lights, a smart key system on the door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate. It’s a sensible step up if you want more convenience without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a lot of comfort and tech, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and a digital instrument display. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to target.
• XSE: This trim leans into style and a sportier feel with unique exterior styling, 20-inch wheels, a large mesh grille, dual exhaust tips, ambient interior lighting, and a sport-tuned suspension. It’s the pick if you want the Highlander to feel a little more distinctive.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with genuine leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, acoustic noise-reducing windows, a hands-free power liftgate, and standard JBL audio. It suits you if comfort and premium touches matter more than value.
• Platinum: The top trim adds the most luxury-oriented equipment, including adaptive headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, a rearview camera mirror, and the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen. Choose it if you want the most fully equipped Highlander.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $32,217 sits slightly below last year's $35,057.

That softer pricing can work in your favor now, but it also suggests future resale values may remain sensitive to mileage, condition, and trim choice. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong shape, you’re more likely to preserve value when it’s time to sell.

The Highlander’s broad appeal as a family SUV helps support demand, especially for examples with desirable equipment and clean history. Strong owner satisfaction ratings also tend to keep used shoppers interested over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The Highlander earns standard Toyota Safety Sense coverage, and it includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

All but the base L trim also get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while upper trims can add front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking monitor, a head-up display, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and adaptive headlights. The lane-departure and lane-keeping systems can feel very active, so that’s worth noting if you prefer lighter steering intervention.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a family-focused three-row SUV with a stout V6, strong versatility, and standard safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,775, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,217 average.
• It adds even more safety technology as standard equipment.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2022 is the better target because it combines a lower current average price than last year, solid inventory, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value play, especially if you find one in good condition with the safety equipment you want.
