CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Toyota Corolla
overall

Summary
With 3,213 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,646, 32.1% of 2022 Toyota Corollas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Toyota Corolla 4.17 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
70.4% of 2022 Corolla models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Corolla remains a solid choice in the compact-car class because it gives buyers a lot of flexibility in a familiar, sensible package. Toyota offers it in sedan and hatchback body styles, with manual and automatic transmissions and multiple powertrain options, including a hybrid. For 2022, the only significant change is the addition of two new colors, Ruby Flare and Windchill Pearl.
That breadth of choice is a major part of the Corolla’s appeal, especially for shoppers who want a dependable, practical car without having to move up to something larger. It also comes with the expected array of trim levels, and the Corolla sedan is available in L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE grades, plus Apex Edition and Nightshade Edition versions of SE and XSE. At the same time, the Corolla is not trying to be the most exciting compact car on the road: the available technology is described as outdated, the design may be polarizing, and performance can feel sluggish.

Overall im happy with my purchase, it was a good car at a good price, there were a minor dent in the front lip that was conviently placed to be covered by the bottom of the ad, which is misleading but not a deal breaker.

Dependable and attractive design, with practical features so there isnt a bunch of added flash that you end up paying for. Wish there were more of these cars around so the demand would go down. These are higher priced due to demand for sure.

| Year-Round Low | $18,157 |
| Year-Round High | $19,557 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,556 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.69% |

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla a good car?
Generally — 4.17/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts point to a well-liked compact car with broad appeal. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its dependable design, practicality, and value for money, and the review summary also highlights its solid, worthwhile feel. The Corolla’s flexibility is a major part of the appeal, with sedan and hatchback body styles, manual and automatic transmissions, and multiple powertrain options. The trade-offs are that the technology is outdated, the design may be polarizing, and performance can feel sluggish.
With 32.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.
Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla reliable?
Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback emphasizes dependable design and a car that feels well worth the investment, which lines up with the Corolla’s reputation for practicality and value. The expert notes also describe it as a reliable and sensible compact car, with a long-running formula built around affordability, reliability, and efficiency. Toyota’s warranty coverage is typical for the class, and the Corolla’s broad configuration range adds to its everyday dependability.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Corolla’s core durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?
At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced car. Focus on condition details that matter in daily use, including signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you want. Because the Corolla was offered in multiple body styles and powertrains, it’s worth confirming that the specific configuration fits your needs before you buy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Corolla’s styling changes by trim, with SE and XSE models getting a more aggressive front fascia, Nightshade Editions adding blacked-out trim, and Apex Editions adding a subtle body kit with bronze accents and model-specific 18-inch wheels. Base trims are less flashy, so you should decide whether you want appearance upgrades or just straightforward transportation.
- Powertrain: The L, LE, and XLE use a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque, while SE and XSE models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0-liter can also be paired with a six-speed manual on SE and SE Apex Edition models, and every 2022 Corolla is front-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.
- Infotainment: The base L gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while all other trims get an 8-inch screen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi connectivity, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system are standard, but wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine with CVT is rated at up to 34 mpg combined, and the manual-transmission SE Apex Edition is rated at 31 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, and XSE.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the simplest way into the Corolla lineup, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost version and don’t need extra equipment. It gets the standard 7-inch touchscreen, but it’s the most basic trim in the range.
- LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the more useful 8-inch touchscreen while staying focused on everyday practicality. If you want a balanced Corolla without paying for sportier or more upscale extras, this is the one to target.
- XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-oriented Corolla with the stronger equipment mix that can also pair with the available premium audio system. It suits buyers who want a more polished daily driver.
- SE: This is the trim to consider if you want the Corolla’s sportier personality and the available manual transmission. It also unlocks the more powerful 2.0-liter engine, making it the most engaging mainstream choice.
- XSE: Pick this if you want the most upscale and feature-rich gas Corolla experience, along with access to the premium audio system. It’s the right fit if you want the top end of the standard lineup without moving into special editions.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,204 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.69% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,157, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla's resale value?
The current average of $18,639 sits slightly below last year's $19,556.
That softer pricing trend suggests the Corolla is still accessible on the used market, which can help keep demand steady for well-kept examples. If you buy at the right price and maintain the car well, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later. The Corolla’s broad appeal and practical reputation should continue to support buyer interest.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla safe?
The 2022 Toyota Corolla earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four stars in rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beams, Lane Tracing Assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, but it isn’t standard on all trim levels.
The main caveat is that the headlights received lower IIHS ratings on some trims, so you should pay attention to the specific version you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 keeps the Corolla’s flexible sedan-and-hatchback formula with multiple powertrains and manual-transmission availability.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,059, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,639 average.
- The 2021 adds a sportier feel in SE and XSE trims.
The bottom line: If you want the broader 2022 market and are shopping for a well-rounded Corolla with strong safety and plenty of configurations, this year makes sense. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you like the sportier trims.
