Why it stands out
The 2022 Nissan Kicks stands out as a practical, value-focused subcompact SUV that was designed to appeal to drivers looking for safe, reliable, no-frills transportation. It was front-wheel drive only, and its 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine made 125 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque, so it was not quick, but it did deliver excellent fuel economy with EPA estimates of 31 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined. That combination of low running costs and straightforward packaging is a big part of its appeal.
For 2022, the Kicks also benefited from the refresh it received for the 2021 model year, which brought updated exterior styling with a new grille and upgraded interior materials. Standard safety and driver-assistance equipment included automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Buyers looking at the 2022 model could also appreciate the available trim spread, from the basic S to the better-equipped SV and SR, with features such as a seven-inch infotainment screen, push-button start, a digital information screen in the gauge cluster, LED headlights, and a 360-degree intelligent around view monitor camera depending on trim.
Its strengths are clear: strong value, good efficiency, and a useful set of standard safety features. The tradeoff is that performance is modest, and the cabin is still quite small, so it makes the most sense for shoppers who prioritize affordability and everyday usability over power or extra space.

“Love this car! It has excellent value with the standard safety and tech features. It handles the potholes of LA with ease and is super fun to drive. I was also considering the Hyundai Kona and Chevy Trax.

I love everything about this car its the perfect size for me, not too small like a sedan but not overwhelming like a truck can be. All of its safety features make me feel more confident and safe on the road. I feel like this is the perfect car for anyone looking for there first or a good reliable car.

I love a small car with get up and go and great gas mileage. This fit the ticket. I purchased the SR model and yes, I feel it was a good value for the price. The Bose sound system is amazing as well as the all leather interior. The only thing missing for me, is electric seats, however, it does have very comfortable heated seats, which I love. The ride is smooth and quiet for a smaller vehicle. Not sure what I would compare it to, as I fell in love with it without test driving anything else.

I received a 2022 Kicks SV after returning my 2020 base model. I can say that Im much happier with this one. While the harsh and lifeless 1.6L engine remains unchanged, the interior bits feel better; even if only slightly. The addition of Apple CarPlay is welcomed, as is the keyless entry. How is that not standard on the base model? The car has kept its spunky outward appearance and is quieter at speeds, but that engine still sounds terrible at highway speeds while it tries to keep up with the plethora of Camrys and Accords on the roadways. The cupholders are larger now so they can hold actual things which is also welcomed. Also, the speakers are far better this go. While they still arent going to impress the kids in your neighborhood, they can be cranked up a bit more for those jams you love. While it does struggle on the highway, itll get you around town with a bit of pep. All in all, its a decent package that has a ton of standard safety features at a good price. You dont see backup sensors AND a camera plus all the other features that come standard on many cars this cheap.

Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks a good car?
Yes — the 4.86/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its excellent value, safety features, enjoyable driving experience, comfortable interior, and impressive fuel efficiency. For you, that makes it a sensible fit if you want a practical, value-focused subcompact SUV for everyday use rather than a performance-first vehicle. With 33.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes that it feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free for everyday use, with a reputation for being a vehicle you can count on. That matters if you want low-stress ownership and predictable commuting costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure a specific example has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by heavy daily use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Kicks?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report so you can confirm the car’s background and spot any prior damage or title issues. Then prioritize a careful inspection of the interior, tires, brakes, and suspension, since condition matters more than mileage alone on a value-oriented used SUV. It’s also smart to focus on how the car drives and whether everything works as expected, especially if you plan to keep it for a while.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Kicks?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep buyer’s-market bargain.
- Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,432 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,854, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Nissan Kicks's resale value?
The current average of $15,855 sits slightly below last year's $17,354.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that a lower entry price can reduce depreciation pressure, but the model’s value will still depend on condition, mileage, and how well it has been maintained. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Kicks or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $14,703, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $15,855 average.
- It adds more features to a practical, affordable crossover package.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it combines solid owner satisfaction, decent deal availability, and a softer price trend. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in clean condition with the features you want.
