Used 2022 Hyundai Kona for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona cost?

Prices have softened 6.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,784 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, safety features, and impressive tech, and they also like its sleek design and smooth handling. On the expert side, the Kona’s refreshed styling and broad powertrain range help it feel more polished and more engaging than many small SUVs.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the back seat is cramped and cargo space is limited. That means you should see it as a strong fit if you want a stylish, value-focused subcompact SUV with a lively personality rather than maximum space.

The market also looks supportive, with 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners highlighting the Kona’s safety features and tech as part of its appeal. The expert evaluation also notes Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance and strong warranty coverage, which help reduce early ownership friction.

That said, used buyers should still check service records carefully and confirm that the vehicle has been maintained consistently, since long-term reliability always depends on how the previous owner treated it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on the interior and cargo area, since the Kona’s space limitations make condition and wear more noticeable. It also makes sense to compare feature content carefully, because some convenience and safety equipment varies by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The refreshed lineup adds sporty N Line and Kona N variants, with the N Line bringing exclusive black seats with red stitching, a black headliner, alloy sport pedals, and N logos, while the Kona N adds wide fenders, 19-inch wheels, summer tires, a front lip spoiler, a double-wing roof spoiler, and N sport bucket seats. The base trim is more basic, so feature gaps matter if you want a more upscale or athletic feel.
• Powertrain: The lower trims use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and a CVT, while the N Line and Limited move to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 195 hp and a seven-speed DCT. The Kona N uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 276 hp and an N eight-speed wet DCT.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.
• Infotainment: The base trim gets an 8-inch display with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. Higher trims add SiriusXM, HD Radio, Hyundai Blue Link, and, on Limited and Kona N, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and traffic information.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD Konas except the Kona N are rated at 32 mpg combined, AWD versions are rated at 29-30 mpg combined depending on engine, and the Kona N returns 23 mpg combined. The Kona Electric is rated at 120 MPGe.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, Limited, and Kona N.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Kona experience with the 8-inch screen, wireless smartphone integration, and the standard safety basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is the least feature-rich.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds SiriusXM, HD Radio, Hyundai Blue Link, and access to useful options like the Convenience Package. If you want a balanced mix of price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• N Line: This trim is the sweet spot if you want more personality and stronger performance, thanks to the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, DCT, sportier styling, and available tech upgrades. It stands out as the most compelling blend of fun and value.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the more upscale tech setup, including the 10.25-inch touchscreen and standard premium audio, along with the richer convenience content. It suits you best if comfort and features matter more than price.
• Kona N: This is the enthusiast choice, with the most powerful engine, performance hardware, and exclusive driving features. It is the right pick if you want the most aggressive version of the Kona rather than the best everyday bargain.

Safety content notes that the driver-aid menu is somewhat limited on the entry-level model, so higher trims are worth a closer look if you want more advanced assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,784 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,587, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $17,594 sits slightly below last year's $18,868.

That price movement suggests the Kona has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside left than a shopper paying closer to original pricing.

The model’s strong value story and broad appeal should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Trim choice and condition will matter a lot, though, because buyers in this segment tend to be selective about features and wear.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona gets five stars from NHTSA for overall crash protection, with five stars for front and side crash protection and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a Top Safety Pick-level result from IIHS with Good ratings in all six crashworthiness tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver aids include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.

One caveat is the child-seat anchor result, which was rated Marginal and kept the Kona from reaching Top Safety Pick status.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds updated styling, upgraded tech, and new sporty variants.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,218, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,594 average.
• It mixes style, usability, and a generous feature set.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, refreshed Kona with stronger tech and more personality, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you can live with the older setup, the 2021 remains the more budget-friendly route.
