How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS cost?

Prices have softened 15.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 928 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The GLS is positioned as Mercedes’ flagship SUV, and the data backs up that role with a focus on size, luxury, and practicality. It is a three-row SUV, so you get the kind of passenger and cargo utility that makes sense if you want a full-size luxury model for everyday use.

The trade-offs are clear: poor ride quality and poor ergonomic design are both called out, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, the GLS still fits buyers who want a large, upscale SUV with a strong presence and real utility.

36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The GLS is described as a flagship luxury SUV with a strong emphasis on comfort, space, and everyday usefulness. Its 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance is presented as smooth and strong enough for the vehicle’s size, and the inline-six layout is noted for inherent smoothness. Standard air suspension and all-wheel drive also support its upscale, capable character.

The performance notes also point to a well-integrated electric assist system that helps with start/stop behavior and accessory load, which is a useful durability and refinement advantage in daily use. Mercedes also includes a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty and four-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, complex luxury SUV can become expensive if neglected, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large luxury SUV with standard air suspension and a long list of available equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and electronics have been cared for properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 form is described as more subtle and less flashy than some rivals, and the test car’s fairly basic interior lacked reclining seats. That means you should pay close attention to which comfort and luxury features are actually present.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a nine-speed automatic and EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. The engine makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with an electric motor that can add 21 hp and 184 lb-ft in short bursts.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, and more advanced driver-assistance features are extra.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX system includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and natural-language voice recognition. Mercedes does not give the GLS augmented-reality navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings are 20 mpg combined, 18 mpg city, and 24 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 1 trim level: GLS 450 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The GLS 450 4Matic is the only standard gas-model trim explicitly identified here, so your decision is less about choosing among trims and more about deciding whether the base configuration gives you enough equipment. It brings the core GLS experience: a smooth inline-six, standard AWD, air suspension, and a roomy three-row layout.

Because advanced safety features and some luxury items are not standard, you should budget for the options that matter most to you. If you want the best value, focus on a well-equipped GLS 450 4Matic with the comfort and driver-assistance features you’ll actually use.

The safety package is strong in standard form, but Mercedes leaves several advanced features on the options list.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 928 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $45,994, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $45,994 sits slightly below last year's $54,485.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper future resale upside if you purchase at the wrong price. If you buy near the low end of the current range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation exposure later.

The GLS still has the kind of nameplate strength and utility that can support demand among luxury-SUV shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Mercedes also includes a system that emits pink noise during a collision to help protect hearing.

The main caveat is that Mercedes leaves several advanced safety features on the options list, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Trailer Stability Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year is notable for being simplified to the base six-cylinder GLS 450 4Matic.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,080, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $45,994 average.
• The 2021 emphasizes S-Class-style refinement in a spacious three-row package.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the better primary target if you want the current-year price advantage and a simpler shopping process centered on the GLS 450 4Matic. If you are price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth comparing only if you find a cleaner or better-equipped example that justifies its slightly higher average price.
