Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.33/10. The 2022 GLS sits at the top of Mercedes’ luxury SUV range, and its flagship role shows up in its size, three-row layout, and emphasis on luxury and practicality. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The test-drive feedback points to a stylish design, a powerful engine, and a roomy cabin, which fits the GLS’s role as a full-size luxury SUV for buyers who want real passenger and cargo utility. The main trade-offs are poor ride quality and poor ergonomic design, and advanced safety features are not standard.

With 36.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The GLS’s flagship positioning and upscale cabin suggest a vehicle built to deliver a premium ownership experience, and the expert feedback also points to a strong engine and a roomy, practical layout.

The performance notes describe the inline-six as smooth and well suited to a luxury vehicle, with the mild-hybrid assist blended in nicely. The cost-effectiveness notes also say the GLS comes fairly well-equipped and includes standard AWD, air suspension, and a surround-view camera system.

Mercedes offers a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty and a four-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some important comfort and driver-assistance features were optional rather than standard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension behavior, cabin electronics, and the condition of any optional equipment. Since this is a flagship SUV, pay close attention to whether the example you’re considering has the comfort and safety features you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLS 450 has a fairly basic interior by GLS standards, but it still feels properly luxurious with leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting, and a digital cockpit layout. It is the only version available for this model year in the U.S., so you should focus on whether the example has the options you want rather than comparing trims.
• Powertrain: The GLS 450 uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a nine-speed automatic and EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance. It makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, with an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft available in short bursts.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, and other advanced driver-assistance features cost extra.
• Infotainment: The standard MBUX setup includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and natural-language voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 20 mpg combined, 18 mpg city, and 24 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in 1 trim level: GLS 450 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The GLS 450 4Matic: This is the only U.S. version for 2022, so your decision is really about finding the best-equipped example rather than choosing between trims. It brings the smooth inline-six, standard AWD, air suspension, and a well-appointed luxury cabin, but you should look closely at options because Mercedes made buyers pay extra for some features that feel like they should be standard on a flagship SUV, including leather seating and adaptive cruise control.

Safety-package note: advanced driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 893 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $46,497, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS's resale value?

The current average of $46,500 sits slightly below last year's $54,787.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price now, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The GLS’s flagship status and roomy three-row layout should still support demand among shoppers who want a large luxury SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS safe?

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS does not have published IIHS or NHTSA crash-test ratings in the available data.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, Crosswind Assist, parking assist, and Pre Safe. Mercedes also includes a system that emits pink noise during a collision to help protect hearing.

A key caveat is that several advanced driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, second-row side airbags, Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Trailer Stability Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, and Active Emergency Stop Assist.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year is notable for being simplified to the GLS 450 4Matic, with a smooth inline-six and flagship-size practicality.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,327, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $46,500 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and impressive technology.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year GLS at a softer price and are comfortable with the single available trim, the 2022 is the cleaner choice. If you’re focused on saving a bit more upfront and want to compare a broader earlier lineup, the 2021 is the better price-sensitive path.
