CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS
overall

Summary
With 826 currently listed for sale and an average price of $41,797.00, 33.9% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
90.4% of 2022 EQS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Mercedes-Benz positions the 2022 EQS as the electric equivalent of its flagship S-Class sedan, and that alone makes it distinctive. It is also the first model to set the tone for Mercedes’ EQ-badged electric lineup, which gives it added importance beyond its own role as a luxury sedan. In practice, the EQS stands out with sleek, aerodynamic styling and an elaborate infotainment system, creating a strong first impression that feels more luxurious than other similarly priced electric sedans.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS also brings the kind of strengths buyers expect from a top-tier electric luxury car. Its highlights include impressive electric range, great handling, and impressive technology. At launch, the lineup includes the base, single-motor EQS 450+ and the dual-motor EQS 580 4MATIC, both offered in Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle trim levels. The main drawbacks are that the voice assistant is slow to respond and some buttons are poorly positioned, so the cabin’s sophistication is not entirely matched by its day-to-day usability.

Ive tested every single electric luxury sedan and this is by far the most comfortable. Not only that but its driver assist technology is incredibly good. I find the range to be very good and close to the best. Overall it feels very classic luxury with technology being mixed in well. Im a tall person and out of the electric luxury sedans I tested I can confidently say this is one of the two (Lucid Air touring being the other) that I fit in very easily. Its acceleration is quite fast and I find a used one a great proposition for money. However, a new one is quite expensive and while I still think its good value for the money, in this case used might be the way to go. Saved me about 31k. I find the user interface of the car incredibly good though I wish the AC had hard button controls. Otherwise its all laid out very easily. Also, for a sedan it has an incredible amount of trunk space.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.
Mercedes positions it as the electric equivalent of its flagship S-Class sedan, and the EQS backs that up with sleek, aerodynamic styling and an elaborate infotainment system. It also brings impressive electric range, great handling, and strong technology, which makes it especially appealing if you want a luxury EV that feels substantial and advanced.
The trade-offs are that the voice assistant is slow to respond and some buttons are poorly positioned, so the cabin’s sophistication does not always translate into the easiest day-to-day usability.
With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Mercedes gives the EQS a four-year, 50,000-mile new vehicle warranty and a 10-year, 155,000-mile battery warranty, which helps reduce early ownership risk. The model’s electric setup also avoids many of the moving parts that can complicate long-term maintenance on gas vehicles, and Mercedes says the battery coverage is among the most generous in the industry.
The performance notes also point to a well-sorted chassis and a powertrain designed for smooth, confident daily use rather than drama. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging system have been cared for properly, since those are the most important expensive components to verify.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury EV with advanced electronics and a high-voltage battery. Focus on how the cabin tech, charging behavior, and driver-assistance features work in real use, since those systems are central to the EQS ownership experience.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The EQS lineup starts with the EQS 450+ Premium and EQS 580 Premium, and the mid-level Exclusive and top Pinnacle trims add more convenience and rear-seat features. The base trim still leaves some desirable equipment as options, so you should compare carefully if you want the best value.
- Powertrain: The EQS 450+ uses a single rear motor with rear-wheel drive, while the EQS 580 uses dual motors and all-wheel drive. Output is strong in both versions, and the car is tuned more for comfort and smoothness than outright performance.
- Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, parking assist, and a surround-view camera system. Pre-Safe predictive occupant protection is also included.
- Infotainment: The Hyperscreen setup combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch main touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front-passenger touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates.
- Range & charging: The EQS 450+ is rated at 350 miles of range, while the EQS 580 is rated at 340 miles. Mercedes says the battery pack is 107.8 kWh, and DC fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, confirm normal charging behavior at home and on DC fast chargers, and review how much of the battery warranty remains. On a used EV, battery condition matters as much as mileage.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS is offered in 6 trim levels: EQS 450+ Premium, EQS 580 Premium, EQS 450+ Exclusive, EQS 580 Exclusive, EQS 450+ Pinnacle, EQS 580 Pinnacle.
Here's the short version:
- EQS 450+ Premium: This is the entry point, and it gives you the rear-wheel-drive setup, long range, and a strong standard equipment list. It makes the most sense if you want the EQS experience at the lowest starting price and can live without some of the more indulgent extras.
- EQS 580 Premium: This adds dual-motor all-wheel drive and more power, so it suits you if you want quicker acceleration and extra traction without jumping straight to the highest trims.
- EQS 450+ Exclusive: This is the best-value choice if you want the EQS to feel properly loaded, because Mercedes requires this trim for massaging seats, four-zone climate control, and a head-up display.
- EQS 580 Exclusive: Choose this if you want the stronger dual-motor powertrain and the more complete luxury feature set together.
- EQS 450+ Pinnacle: This is the most comfort-focused version of the rear-wheel-drive model, with more rear-seat convenience features for buyers who care about passenger comfort.
- EQS 580 Pinnacle: This is the top-end choice if you want the most fully equipped EQS and are willing to pay for the most rear-seat and convenience content.
Mercedes notes that the base EQS 450+ Premium still requires an upgrade for the Hyperscreen display, and the Exclusive trim is the one that unlocks several major comfort features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 838 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $41,853.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS's resale value?
The current average of $41,860 sits slightly below last year's $46,721.
That price movement suggests the EQS has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be good news if you are buying now and planning to keep it for a while. For a future seller, it means the market has reset lower, so resale gains are less likely unless demand for used luxury EVs strengthens.
The good news is that the EQS still brings strong range, luxury, and technology, which helps support buyer interest. If you maintain it well and keep the battery in strong condition, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS safe?
It earns no published crash-test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA yet.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, a driver-attention monitor, parking assist, and a surround-view camera system. Mercedes also includes Pre-Safe predictive occupant protection to help reduce injury risk if a crash is imminent.
The main caveat is that formal crash-test results are not yet available, so you are relying more on the EQS’s standard safety equipment and Mercedes’s active-safety technology than on published test scores.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mercedes positions it as the electric equivalent of its flagship S-Class sedan, with sleek styling, impressive range, and advanced technology.
The bottom line: The 2022 EQS makes the most sense if you want the first-year version of Mercedes’s flagship electric sedan and you value luxury, range, and tech over bargain pricing. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to keep shopping and compare nearby model years for a lower entry point, but the 2022 already looks more attractive now that prices have softened.
