The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The E-Class stands out for its versatility, with multiple body styles and a luxury-focused cabin that emphasizes craftsmanship and comfort. It also brings advanced technology through MBUX, plus turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrains that balance power and efficiency. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium car that can be tailored to different body styles and driving preferences.
The market also shows 34.1% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The E-Class is presented as a high-quality, versatile luxury car with strong craftsmanship, and the expert evaluation highlights a broad mix of comfort, technology, and performance. Its turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines are described as providing a balance of power and efficiency, and the AMG-tuned version is portrayed as solid and sure-footed even when driven hard. The tech and safety systems also point to a well-developed ownership experience, especially if you value a car that feels polished and thoughtfully equipped.
The maintenance perk language in the expert evaluation is not included, but the overall package still suggests a premium ownership experience with the usual complexity that comes with advanced luxury features. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a highly optioned luxury car can be expensive to keep in top condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily. Focus on the condition of the interior electronics, driver-assistance features, and any signs of wear that could be costly to address on a luxury model. If you’re shopping a convertible or a more performance-oriented version, pay extra attention to roof operation, suspension behavior, and evidence of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base E350 sedan is described as the more basic form, while the E450 adds the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost. The AMG E53 brings AMG styling and a more aggressive setup, while the base E350 is described as almost devoid of character compared with higher-spec versions.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. The E450 gets a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, while the AMG E53 uses a 3.0-liter turbo-six with 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.
- Safety package: The standard suite includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: MBUX uses two 12.3-inch screens, including a touchscreen and digital instrument cluster. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and upgrades include WiFi service and an augmented reality navigation overlay.
- Fuel efficiency: The E450’s EQ Boost mild-hybrid setup is described as improving both power output and efficiency. The expert evaluation also notes that the turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines provide a balance of power and efficiency.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, and E53 Cabriolet.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E350 is the most basic expression of the lineup, and the expert evaluation suggests it lacks the visual drama and engagement of the higher-spec versions.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E450 is the best value if you want the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech, and strong performance without jumping to AMG pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The AMG E53 Cabriolet adds the most luxury and tech flair, along with AMG styling, a more powerful engine, and a richly appointed cabin.
- Off-road trim: The All-Terrain wagon is not the best fit if you want the most typical daily-driver experience, especially if you’re prioritizing the sedan or convertible body styles.
The Driver Assistance Package is the key safety-package upgrade to look for if you want the fullest set of driver aids.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,079 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.61% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,430.62, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $40,847 sits slightly below last year's $43,739.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may not see the same near-term appreciation you would in a tighter market. Still, the E-Class’s premium positioning and broad appeal can help support demand if the car is well kept and properly equipped.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class has standard forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The E-Class Cabriolet also features pop-up rollbars designed to protect occupants in a rollover collision. Mercedes Pre Safe and Pre Safe Sound are standard, and the AMG E53 also gets Active Parking Assist plus a surround-view camera system.
Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, including adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus. If you want the fullest safety setup, that package is the one to target.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup sees few changes and adds standard automatic high-beam headlights.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $37,873, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,847 average.
- It offers a mid-cycle update with a broad range of powertrains and a strong blend of performance, comfort, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing context, strong safety equipment, and a well-rounded luxury package, the 2022 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better value path and still gives you much of the E-Class formula.
