CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 178 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $38,162.00, 30.9% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Classes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
92.1% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it continues to lean on the polished character and upscale appeal that define the E-Class rather than chasing major reinvention.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants. The lineup also loses V8 engines, leaving turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. At the same time, automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, a couple of paint colors are new, and rear USB charging ports are now standard on the coupe and convertible body styles. That mix makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with useful standard equipment, though shoppers looking for the most powerful versions will find those options gone.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $40,373 |
| Year-Round Low | $40,128.07 |
| Year-Round High | $43,130.41 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,133 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.40% |
Prices have softened 6.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 1,032 listings available, you have a decent amount of inventory to compare across trims and body styles.
If you find a listing below $40,128.07, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating lines up with an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The 2022 E-Class is positioned as a refined luxury car with rare body-style variety, especially in Cabriolet form, and it continues to lean on polished character rather than major reinvention. That makes it a strong fit if you want upscale appeal, useful standard equipment, and a broad range of configurations rather than a dramatic redesign.
30.2% of listings are marked as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 E-Class is described as a polished, upscale luxury car, and the expert review also points to a robust turbocharged six-cylinder setup with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology that helps improve both power output and efficiency. The model’s overall character suggests a car built to deliver comfort and refinement over the long haul, and Mercedes’ standard maintenance coverage can help reduce early ownership friction when it applies to your specific vehicle.
For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is paying luxury-car money for a car that may have been heavily optioned or driven hard, so condition and service history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper paper trail. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin electronics, convertible-top operation if applicable, and the condition of the wheels, tires, and suspension. If you are shopping an AMG version, pay extra attention to how the car drives under load and whether all performance and comfort systems work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, and the AMG E53 stands out with AMG styling, larger wheels, a convertible top, and a more dramatic cabin presentation. Base E350 models are more understated, while higher-spec versions add the richer look and feel that make the E-Class feel special.
- Powertrain: Sedans come with an E350 turbocharged four-cylinder, while E450 versions use a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. AMG E53 models use a more powerful version of the E450 engine, and the lineup no longer includes V8 power.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses Mercedes-Benz User Experience with two 12.3-inch screens, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi service, and an augmented reality navigation overlay. A head-up display is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: EQ Boost is designed to improve both power output and efficiency.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53.
Here's the short version:
- E350: This is the most accessible way into the lineup, and it gives you the turbocharged four-cylinder setup in a more understated package. It makes sense if you want the E-Class experience without chasing the pricier performance and appearance upgrades.
- E450: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology and keeps the car’s refined character intact. If you want stronger acceleration and a more satisfying all-around luxury feel, this is the one to target.
- AMG E53: Choose this if you want the most performance-focused version in the lineup, with AMG tuning, more aggressive styling, and the strongest engine output discussed here. It suits you best if you care more about speed and presence than value.
The Driver Assistance Package is a worthwhile safety upgrade if you find a car without it.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,032 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,128.07, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $40,373 sits slightly below last year's $43,133.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, because the model is competing in a luxury segment where buyers are selective.
If you keep the car well maintained and avoid neglecting cosmetic or mechanical issues, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell. Strong presentation matters especially here because shoppers in this class often compare multiple similarly equipped examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class comes with standard forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, and Pre Safe Sound. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and Active Parking Assist plus a surround-view camera system are standard on the AMG E53.
Most of the more advanced driver aids are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, which adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus. That package is a meaningful upgrade if you want the fullest safety tech suite.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup keeps the refreshed look and standard automatic high-beam headlights while dropping V8 and AMG E63 variants.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $36,681, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,373 average.
- It offers broad body-style and engine variety with a practical, versatile character.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, strong safety, and a refreshed feature set, the 2022 is the better primary choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter price-sensitive alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
