How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 5.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,098 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, and excellent safety features, and many also like the comfortable interior and strong turbo performance. That lines up with the CX-5’s use case as a compact SUV that feels more upscale and more engaging than many rivals. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and technology that can be unintuitive. Even so, the market still shows healthy interest, with 38.6% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers highlighting the CX-5’s overall quality and confidence-inspiring feel. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the model’s improved solidity, quieter cabin, and smoother ride. Mazda also includes a generous complimentary three-year trial for connected services, which adds some ownership value early on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical reputation and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior wear, infotainment operation, and any signs of hard use. Given the CX-5’s cramped rear seat and limited cargo space, condition matters even more if you plan to use it as a family hauler.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the CX-5 2.5 S and the CX-5 2.5 Turbo. The 2.5 S is the value play if you want slightly better fuel economy and more relaxed acceleration, while the 2.5 Turbo is the choice if you want stronger performance and are willing to give up some efficiency. The base 2.5 S is the least expensive entry point, but the 2.5 S Premium and Premium Plus add useful upgrades such as Mi-Drive drive modes, and the Signature brings the most upscale cabin materials and the most advanced safety tech.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, paired with a revised six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The 2.5 Turbo also uses the revised six-speed automatic and standard AWD, and it makes 256 hp and 320 pound-feet on premium gas, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular gas. The 2.5 S is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the 2.5 Turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive headlights are added on the 2.5 S Premium, while the Signature gets a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 10.25-inch display, and it is not touch-sensing. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are not mentioned, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with text-messaging support, E911 automatic emergency notification, and Mazda Connected Services. Starting with the 2.5 S Premium, you also get a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the 2.5 Turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, base, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point for the 2.5 S if you want the lowest starting price and standard all-wheel drive. It makes the most sense if you care more about getting into the CX-5’s core driving character and safety equipment than about luxury extras.
• Select: This is the next step up in the 2.5 S lineup and is a sensible choice if you want a little more equipment without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Preferred: This trim is a good middle ground for shoppers who want a more polished feel while staying with the efficient 2.5 S powertrain.
• Carbon Edition: This is the best-value style-and-features pick if you want a more distinctive look without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
• Premium: This is where the CX-5 starts to feel more upscale, and it is a strong choice if you want a richer feature set and Mi-Drive drive modes.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for shoppers who want the most complete 2.5 S experience, including Mi-Drive and a more premium overall setup without going all the way to Signature.
• base: The 2.5 Turbo base trim is the choice if you want turbocharged performance and stronger acceleration, and it mixes equipment from the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and Premium Plus versions.
• Signature: This is the top trim and the one to buy if you want the most luxurious cabin, the most advanced safety equipment, and the fullest premium feel.

The standard i-Activsense safety suite is comprehensive, while the Signature adds the most advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,098 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,143, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $23,681 sits slightly below last year's $24,963.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can help you if you are shopping now but may temper resale upside in the near term. Even so, the model’s strong reputation, premium feel, and broad appeal should help it remain desirable in the used market. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should still have a solid path to future resale.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Mazda reserves adaptive headlights for the 2.5 S Premium, while the Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist. One notable strength is that blind-spot warning can appear in the head-up display when equipped, which helps keep your eyes on the road.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s updates make the 2022 feel more premium, quieter, and more refined than earlier versions.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,875, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,681 average.
• It offers strong value with enhanced tech and a new Carbon Edition.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,608, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,681 average.
• It adds little beyond a new paint option and is nearing the end of its run.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, refinement, and current-market availability, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better budget path. If you want the newest example and are willing to pay more, the 2023 remains appealing, but it does not add much over the 2022.
