How much does the 2022 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 3.82% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 484 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — the 2022 MINI Cooper earns a 5/5 user rating and a 5.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

The 2022 MINI Cooper is built around personalization, with BMW-based engineering, BMW engines, and BMW technology, and it is aimed at buyers who want a premium small car that feels tailored rather than generic. The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, cargo space is limited, and value for money is not one of its strengths.

Cons: Underwhelming base engine, not much cargo space, and poor value for money.

Good and great deals account for 43.6% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 MINI Cooper’s appeal comes from its distinctive design, BMW-based hardware, and broad personalization options, which can make ownership feel more special than ordinary small-car transportation. It is also described as more technologically advanced than ever and fuel-efficient.

The performance setup centers on MINI’s turbocharged engines, and the model’s engineering emphasis supports a lively, premium feel. The cost side of ownership is less reassuring, since the car is positioned as a premium product and the value proposition is not especially strong.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a car this individualized can be more expensive to live with if you want the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any car you’re considering, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has been modified or heavily optioned. Focus on condition details that matter most in a small premium car: interior wear, feature operation, and whether the equipment level matches what you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 MINI Cooper emphasizes personalization, with a wide range of colors, materials, wheels, packages, and options, and the base setup is less compelling than better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: The Cooper uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 134 horsepower, while the Cooper S steps up to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 189 hp, and the JCW version is tuned for 235 hp.
• Safety package: Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available with an automatic transmission, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not available.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM, and BMW-based connected services. Android Auto is not available, and navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a Harman Kardon sound system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Cooper is described as fuel-efficient, and the Cooper S test car returned 27.1 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2022 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point, but the base engine is underwhelming, so it makes the most sense only if you want the MINI look and personality at the lowest starting point.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and delivers the more satisfying balance of performance and everyday usability.
• John Cooper Works: Choose this if you want the most power and the most enthusiast-focused version of the lineup.

Driving Assistant is standard, but adaptive cruise control is only available with an automatic transmission.

What is the 2022 MINI Cooper's resale value?
