The MINI Cooper is a pint-size machine that features quirky style and perky performance. It’s offered in two- and four-door hatchback styles, and as a convertible. It’s not a large car, as buyers would expect of something wearing the MINI logo, but makes up for its diminutive size with cute looks and premium materials.

What’s New for the 2027 MINI Cooper
The MINI Cooper is currently in its fourth generation in the United States (not counting the original version that first arrived in the late 1950s), with a design that debuted in 2025. For the 2027 model year, MINI reintroduces the Oxford Edition in both two-door and four-door styles with three exclusive colors—Sunny Side Yellow, Blazing Blue Metallic, and Nanuq White Metallic. Inside, the Oxford gets Sport Seats in a gray and blue two-tone and an Anthracite headliner. MINI is also releasing a run of limited special editions through its MINI Icon Drops campaign, including the 2027 Heritage Edition, Rooftop Edition, and 1998 GT Edition. The 1998 GT is a Cooper C two-door with Midnight Black Metallic paint, orange 1998 GT graphics, John Cooper Works (JCW) styling elements, and JCW Sport Seats, priced at $38,225 including destination and arriving at dealers in November 2026. Additionally, MINI made more interior finishes, contrasting roof colors, and black exterior trim available across a wider range of trim levels.
Design
The MINI Cooper’s pugnacious style has carried through all four generations available since the nameplate’s relaunch in 2002. In its two-door hatchback and convertible forms, the Cooper can either look adorable or, in spicy John Cooper Works trim, sporty and aggressive. The larger four-door model is quite a bit longer than the two-door version and isn’t offered in high-performance JCW guise. MINI buyers have a large number of ways to customize their cars straight from the factory, with a large color palette, contrasting roof and mirror colors, stripe packages, and several wheel options.
Powertrain
Cooper C models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 161 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. In Cooper S form, power is boosted to 201 hp and 221 lb-ft. JCW models use a similar engine that’s tuned to produce 228 hp and 280 lb-ft. Irrespective of the model, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. According to the EPA, most Cooper C and Cooper S two-door models return 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 32 mpg combined. Droptop models are rated at 30 mpg combined, so the Cooper is pretty efficient in every guise.

Interior
There’s plenty of room for a driver and front-seat passenger in the Cooper but, as buyers will likely guess, the back seat isn’t particularly spacious. Technically, the two-door models seat four occupants while the four-door can seat five, but things are tight when every seat is occupied. MINI offers a number of interesting interior colors, finishes, and textiles. Various cloth and synthetic upholstery options are available, and MINI’s leather-free Vescin upholstery is made from recycled material.
Technology
The MINI Cooper features some very interesting tech inside, especially the circular 9.4-inch touchscreen that sits directly in the middle of the dashboard. The infotainment screen’s unique design and various Experience Moods (including options such as Go-Kart, Vivid, and Timeless) make the Cooper stand out from other small hatchbacks, and the vast majority of the car’s functions are controlled using the single screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported. A head-up display that projects useful information onto a small screen in the driver’s line of sight is standard. A six-speaker audio system is standard and an upgraded 12-speaker system from Harman Kardon is available.
