Why it stands out
The 2022 Lexus LS stands out as a full-size luxury sedan that blends traditional Lexus strengths with modern technology and a distinctive design. By this point in the model’s life, the LS had already moved away from the brand’s long-running V8 formula, and the current car’s twin-turbo V6 powertrain gives it a different character. It also benefits from the LS’s long-standing reputation for quietness, premium interior materials, and multiple powertrain options, which have helped define the nameplate for years.
For 2022, Lexus focused on refinement and safety. The LS received suspension and powertrain refinements aimed at a smoother ride, quieter operation, and improved responses, while the hybrid version also got enhanced electric propulsion and revised transmission programming. Inside, the available Haku decorative metal trim added another layer of craftsmanship, and the safety suite was upgraded with improvements to pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning with steering assist. Lane-change assist was also added to the lane-tracing assist system.
The 2022 Lexus LS is appealing to buyers who want a large luxury sedan with a calm driving experience, a richly finished cabin, and a strong safety feature set. At the same time, it is not perfect: Lexus still used a touchpad-based infotainment system in this model year, which could be less intuitive than a touchscreen. Even so, the LS remains distinctive for buyers who value comfort, craftsmanship, and a more understated take on flagship luxury.
