How much does the 2022 Jeep Wrangler cost?

Prices have softened 11.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 8,777 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Jeep Wrangler earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its iconic design, fun driving experience, and customizable features, and many also like the easy-to-use soft top and strong off-road performance. The trade-offs are familiar: some owners say it feels overpriced, and gas mileage can be a concern.

That fits the Wrangler’s purpose-first setup in the overview: you’re buying it for character, open-air versatility, and capability more than everyday polish. Even so, 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners trust for its durable, dependable character and trouble-free ownership experience, especially when they value its long-term appeal and off-road personality. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Wrangler is built around a rugged, go-anywhere formula that many buyers can count on when they want something more adventurous than a conventional SUV.

The 3.6-liter V6 with eTorque mild-hybrid assistance adds a bit of extra muscle from a stop, and the 48-volt system can help overall efficiency. Jeep also notes that the Wrangler’s design is meant to handle rough use and varied conditions, which supports its reputation for durability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting a vehicle that can be tiring and costly to live with if you expect comfort and refinement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any Wrangler you’re considering, because off-road use and modification are common in this segment. A pre-purchase inspection matters too, especially if the listing shows signs of heavy trail use, aftermarket changes, or wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Focus on roof, doors, suspension, tires, and interior condition, since those areas can reveal how the vehicle was used.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon are the core trims, and the base setup can feel sparse because many conveniences are optional rather than standard.
• Powertrain: You can choose among a turbocharged four-cylinder, gasoline V6, turbodiesel V6, gas V8, or plug-in hybrid powertrain, and the turbo-four and V6 come standard with a six-speed manual transmission.
• Safety package: The Safety Group adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, while the larger 8.4-inch system adds satellite radio, connected services, a WiFi hotspot, navigation, and an Alpine premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The eTorque V6 is rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 17.6 mpg on the evaluation route and 16.8 mpg over a week.

Which 2022 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but you should expect a stripped-down experience and plan on adding options if you want more convenience or safety equipment.
• Sport S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it serves as the base for the High Tide test vehicle and supports a more usable mix of everyday features and optional upgrades.
• Sahara: This trim is the better fit if you want a more comfort-oriented Wrangler without jumping straight to the most off-road-focused setup.
• Rubicon: This is the one to choose if off-road capability is your top priority, especially if you want the most serious trail-ready hardware in the lineup.

The Safety Group and Advanced Safety Group are both worthwhile upgrades, especially because many safety features are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Wrangler?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 8,777 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,393, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?

The current average of $29,393 sits slightly below last year's $33,155.

That price movement suggests the Wrangler has softened enough to give used buyers more negotiating room today. For a future seller, that means resale value may depend heavily on condition, trim, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because demand remains tied to the Wrangler’s strong identity and owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should continue to attract attention. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Wrangler safe?

The Jeep Wrangler earns a three-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA, and IIHS testing rates it Marginal in the left front small overlap crash test and Marginal in the side-impact test.

It earns a 2/10 safety score from our experts.

The Safety Group includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. Those packages help, but they are optional rather than standard.

The crash-test results are the main caution here, especially the rollover rating and the Marginal IIHS results. If safety is a top priority, you should treat the Wrangler as a vehicle that requires extra care and a close look at its available safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new air filtration system and updated equipment changes.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,977, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,393 average.
• It offers more powertrain breadth, including a plug-in hybrid and a V8.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $34,620, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $29,393 average.
• It emphasizes body-on-frame ruggedness and highlights standard solid axles.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the current-year balance of price, availability, and Wrangler character. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2022 Jeep Wrangler:

• Cons: Poor fuel economy, Poor ride quality, Unimpressive safety ratings.

2022 Ford Bronco:

• Pros: Incredible off-road capabilities, Multiple body styles, Plenty of cargo space.
• Cons: Advanced safety features are not standard, Middling safety scores.
