In use, that lines up with the overview’s focus on a polished three-row SUV with premium interior materials and a comfortable ride. The main trade-offs are the front-seat comfort concerns and the touch screen brightness at night, while the expert review also calls out the base engine as underpowered and the vehicle as noisy. What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and how the SUV drives over rough pavement, since this model is meant to feel refined and comfortable. If you’re shopping a higher trim, make sure the equipment you expect is actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Laredo gets six-speaker or nine-speaker no-name stereos, while higher trims add more upscale materials and features; the Summit and Summit Reserve bring black roofs, larger wheels, more chrome, and richer cabin appointments.
• Powertrain: Two familiar engines are available: a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8, both paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The V6 is described as underpowered in this heavy SUV, while the V8 is stronger and sounds better.
• Safety package: Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition are standard on the Summit trims and optional on the Overland.
• Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Jeep added an optional 10.3-inch passenger display plus optional dual 10.1-inch rear-seat touchscreens with Amazon Fire TV.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. The V8 is rated at 14/22/17.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve, and Overland with the Off-Road Group. Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, but it’s the least lavish way into the lineup and gets the simpler audio setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point and can live without the richer equipment found higher up.
• Overland: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale content and can be paired with the Off-Road Group, which brings all-terrain tires and the Jeep Trail-Rated badge. It’s the trim to target if you want the broadest mix of comfort and capability.
• Summit: This trim adds more luxury and convenience features, including automatic parking, front cross-traffic alert, driver attention monitor, and traffic sign recognition. It suits you if you want a more premium daily driver.
• Summit Reserve: This is the most luxurious version, with the 19-speaker McIntosh stereo and the richest cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most upscale Grand Cherokee L experience.
• Overland with the Off-Road Group: This version is the one to buy if you want the strongest trail-ready setup in the lineup, including all-terrain tires, skid plates, and smaller 18-inch wheels. It’s the clear pick for buyers who care most about rough-road use.

The safety package starts with standard driver aids, while the more advanced features are reserved for higher trims.

If you find a listing below $27,096, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L's resale value?

The current average of $27,096 sits slightly below last year's $30,928.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you should expect some depreciation pressure if you buy at today’s average and try to resell soon. The upside is that a well-kept example with strong equipment and clean history should still attract interest from shoppers looking for a premium three-row SUV. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors come standard. Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It blends premium interior materials with a comfortable ride and wireless smartphone integration.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,247, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,096 average.
• It introduced the three-row Grand Cherokee L and broadened Jeep’s family SUV lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $30,285, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,096 average.
• It leans harder into comfort and upscale cabin quality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and current-market availability, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money, while the 2023 makes sense if you’re willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative.
