Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, luxurious feel, and great features, and they also value its affordability compared with similar electric models. The overview points to a spacious cabin, impressive technology, and strong value for money, which fits the way many shoppers will use it as a comfortable, well-equipped EV for everyday driving. The main trade-off is that performance is fairly pedestrian, and the expert review also notes that the design may be polarizing. Even so, 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which keeps the market attractive if you want a feature-rich EV without paying top dollar.

Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 reliable?

The user feedback points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience in the sense that owners are impressed with the car’s smooth drive and overall value, and they describe it as a vehicle they feel good about living with over time. The expert review also emphasizes the IONIQ 5’s quiet, composed character and its EV-focused engineering, which supports the impression of dependable day-to-day use. Hyundai also includes unlimited 30-minute fast-charging sessions for two years, which can make early ownership easier if you rely on public charging. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging system have been treated well, since EV ownership depends heavily on how the car was charged and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing cars with similar prices. Focus on overall condition, charging behavior, and whether the car has been used mostly for home charging or frequent DC fast charging. For an EV, battery health matters as much as cosmetic condition, so you want to understand how the car has been used and whether it still feels consistent in range and charging speed.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SE, SEL, and Limited, and the base SE keeps the essentials while the higher trims add more convenience and luxury equipment. The Limited is the most feature-rich choice, while the SEL is the trim that adds hands-free lane changing.
• Powertrain: Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available across the lineup. The base SE Standard Range uses a single rear motor, while extended-range RWD versions use a larger rear motor and AWD versions switch to a dual-motor setup with more power but less range.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense is standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and front- and rear-collision avoidance. Hyundai Highway Drive Assist I is also standard, and it adds machine-learning adaptive cruise control with stop & go.
• Infotainment: The IONIQ 5 uses dual 12.3-inch screens, and the system includes over-the-air updates, a digital key, enhanced smartphone pairing, and voice recognition. The displays are designed to be easy to read, even with polarized sunglasses.
• Range & charging: The base SE Standard Range is listed with 220 miles of range, while extended-range RWD versions reach 303 miles and AWD versions drop to 256 miles. Fast charging can take the battery to 80 percent in 18 minutes, and a full charge took 42 minutes and 52 seconds in testing.
• Battery health: Check the battery state of health, ask how often the car has been DC fast charged, and confirm whether home charging was the norm. You should also review how much of the battery warranty remains so you know what protection you still have as a used buyer.

Which 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the IONIQ 5’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It keeps the standard rear-drive layout and the model’s key EV tech, and it’s the trim to consider if you care most about range, charging, and price.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience without jumping all the way to the top model. It’s the trim that brings hands-free lane changing, so it makes sense if you want a more relaxed daily driver with extra tech.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the IONIQ 5. It’s the trim for the massive moonroof and augmented-reality head-up display, so it suits you best if you want the fullest feature set and don’t mind paying more.

Hyundai SmartSense is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety package even on the lower trims.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 759 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,622, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5's resale value?

The current average of $21,891 sits slightly below last year's $23,604.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A softer market can also make it easier for you to find a well-equipped example without paying a premium. If demand stays supported by the IONIQ 5’s strong feature set and broad appeal, resale should remain healthier than average for a used EV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out as Hyundai’s debut EV from its new sub-brand, with standard advanced safety features and a strong value-oriented setup.

The bottom line: If you want the first-year IONIQ 5 with strong tech, standard safety, and a softer used price, the 2022 is the one to target. If you’re mainly chasing a newer model-year feel and can spend more, a later year may be worth a look, but the 2022 remains the better value path for most used buyers.
