CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Civic
overall

Summary
With 2,805 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,079, 34.4% of 2022 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Civic 4.94 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
71.5% of 2022 Honda Civic listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Everything about the 2022 Honda Civic sedan was reworked, rethought, or redesigned to keep it at the top of the compact-car class. That redesign is the car’s defining trait, and it helps explain why the Civic remains such an important model for Honda. The result is a sedan that stands out for its strong handling and impressive technology, while also offering plenty of cargo space.
The 2022 Honda Civic sedan is especially appealing if you want a compact car that feels polished and well-rounded. Honda’s own summary says the redesign was handled with few exceptions, and that makes this Civic one of the best compact cars you can buy. It is not perfect, though: the base stereo is lacking, and the car is described as poor value for money.

I think this car offers a lot of value for the money. It comes with a strong set of features that make it comfortable, practical, and enjoyable to drive. The design looks modern, and it has many of the technology and safety features that most drivers are looking for today. One of the biggest strengths of this car is its balance between performance, comfort, and affordability. It feels like you get a lot without having to move into a much higher price range. While no vehicle is perfect, this car does a great job meeting the needs of most drivers. The overall package is competitive and well-rounded, making it a smart choice for someone looking for reliability, style, and everyday usability. Compared with other vehicles in its class, this car stands out as a strong contender and is definitely worth considering. It offers an attractive combination of features, value, and driving experience that makes it easy to recommend.

Car was super clean, better than what the pictures showed. Features are good and it was very low mileage. If I have to add something to the car, it would be the back up sensors and blind spot sensors. Other than that it was a great purchase

How much does the 2022 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,069 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,765 |
| Year-Round High | $23,112 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,117 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.53% |
Prices have softened 4.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,772 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.94/5, and the expert rating is 7.67/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise the Civic’s blend of technology, comfort, and driving performance, along with its smooth ride and impressive fuel economy. The redesign also comes through in the polished interior and the car’s well-rounded feel, which helps it stand out if you want a compact sedan that feels more mature than basic transportation.
The main trade-offs are the missing options some owners mention, including wireless Apple CarPlay on certain versions, plus the base stereo’s weak sound. The overview also points to poor value for money, so you should weigh the equipment you want against the trim you choose.
With its strong handling, plenty of cargo space, and impressive technology, this Civic makes the most sense if you want a compact sedan that feels refined and useful rather than stripped-down. Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe the Civic as dependable and trouble-free, and they also highlight its comfort and fuel economy as reasons they feel confident living with it over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of predictability, noting that the car reacts exactly as expected and brings trust to everyday driving.
That said, used buyers should still watch for signs of deferred maintenance and make sure the car’s features work as intended, especially on higher-mileage examples.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?
At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to test every major feature during a drive, since some owners mention missing options and small usability frustrations.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX and Sport are the most basic versions, while the EX and Touring add more upscale equipment and better interior presentation. The Touring especially stands out for its more mature materials and richer cabin feel.
- Powertrain: LX and Sport use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, while EX and Touring get a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The turbo engine is the stronger all-around choice if you want more satisfying acceleration.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. Blind-spot warning is standard on the EX, while the Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert; the LX and Sport do not get blind-spot warning.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged engine is described as delivering a satisfying blend of performance and efficiency, and the expert test drive noted 30.4 mpg on a driving loop for the Touring, versus an EPA estimate of 34 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, but it comes with the most basic equipment, including only four stereo speakers and no blind-spot warning. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price, but it is the least appealing choice for most shoppers.
- Sport: The Sport adds a bit more presence and doubles the speaker count, but the audio still does not impress. It is a reasonable middle-ground pick if you want the Civic’s driving character without stretching to a higher trim, though it still misses blind-spot warning.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds the turbocharged engine and a proper blind-spot warning system on both sides. If you want the strongest mix of everyday usability, safety, and performance, this is the trim to target.
- Touring: The Touring brings the most complete package, including the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone features, premium Bose audio, and rear cross-traffic alert. It is the right choice if you want the most upscale Civic experience and are willing to pay for it.
For safety, the EX is the key trim to consider because it adds the proper blind-spot warning system, while the Touring goes further with rear cross-traffic alert.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,772 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,765, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $22,069 sits slightly below last year's $23,117.
That decline suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect some depreciation pressure if you buy at the current average and sell in the near term. Still, the Civic’s broad appeal and strong demand help support long-term value better than many compact cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?
The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes Traffic Jam Assist, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The Civic also adds a proper blind-spot warning system on the EX, while the Touring gets rear cross-traffic alert.
One important caveat is that the LX and Sport do not get blind-spot warning, which is a notable gap for trims that many buyers may consider. The safety evaluation also highlights the car’s stronger structure, improved front airbags, rear side-impact airbags, and standard rear-seat reminder system.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Honda nailed the redesign, engineering, and technology with few exceptions.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,205, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,069 average.
- It is the outgoing generation’s last model year before the redesign.
The bottom line: If you want the more refined, better-equipped Civic with stronger tech and a fresher design, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 can still make sense as a value play, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
