CarGurus Analysis: 2022 GMC Yukon
overall

Summary
With 271 currently listed for sale near Alexandria, VA and an average price of $48,506.00, 18.8% of 2022 GMC Yukons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 GMC Yukon 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
86.0% of 2022 Yukon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 GMC Yukon stands out as a full-size SUV that blends style with capability, and it does so with the kind of premium touches GMC uses to separate itself from more mainstream truck-based rivals. For 2022, it gains a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity, adding to the appeal of a vehicle that already offers a distinctive mix of utility and upscale design. It is also available in four trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
What makes the 2022 Yukon especially appealing is its breadth of strengths. It offers multiple powertrain options, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space, which should matter to buyers who want a large SUV that can handle family duty and hauling with confidence. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so the Yukon’s appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize capability, space, and a more premium feel over efficiency and bargain pricing.

Very nice ride. The only thing to improve would be the fuel efficiency of the 5.3L gas engine.

The diesel is good value, the gas models not so much. I love these things! Much better space in the trunk and in general than the expedition and that’s coming from a ford guy. The seats fold in a more logical fashion and it’s more family friendly. The seats in the expedition are so hard I had to look at tahoes and Yukons instead. They’re currently vastly superior!

The trade-offs are real: poor fuel economy and poor value for money are part of the package, so you should weigh efficiency and pricing carefully against the Yukon’s strengths. Even so, the market shows 33.6% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Yukon’s appeal is reinforced by its broad capability, premium design, and the fact that it offers multiple powertrain choices, including a diesel option with strong torque and excellent fuel economy. The 3.0-liter diesel also comes with a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds confidence for buyers who plan to keep the SUV for the long haul.
The 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s both use direct injection and cylinder-deactivation technology, and all three engines pair with a 10-speed automatic. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Yukon’s size, complexity, and fuel costs can make upkeep and daily running expenses more demanding than you might expect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are common but not guaranteed. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the suspension, electronics, and any signs of heavy use, especially if the SUV was used for towing or family hauling. Pay close attention to condition, since a large premium SUV can hide expensive wear behind a clean presentation.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SLE already has a premium look, but it uses cloth seats and lacks some of the richer cabin touches found higher up the range. The SLT, AT4, and Denali move to perforated leather, and the Denali adds the most upscale interior designs and standard second-row captain’s chairs.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The diesel is the efficiency play, while the 6.2-liter V8 is the strongest gas engine and the 5.3-liter V8 is the standard setup on most trims.
- Safety package: GMC Pro Safety is standard and includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
- Infotainment: The Yukon uses a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-In, and wireless phone charging on all but the SLE. AT4 and Denali also get three years of connected services.
- Fuel efficiency: The V8 models return 16-17 mpg combined, while diesel versions average 22-23 mpg combined. The diesel also gives you up to 648 miles of range on a tank.
Which 2022 GMC Yukon trim should I buy?
The 2022 GMC Yukon is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SLE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Yukon’s premium look, standard seating for eight, and the core tech and safety setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the richer cabin materials and extra convenience features.
- SLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel with perforated leather and opens the door to more comfort and convenience upgrades. If you want the Yukon experience without jumping all the way to luxury pricing, this is the trim to focus on.
- AT4: This is the choice if you want the more rugged-looking Yukon with unique front styling, a skid plate, red recovery hooks, and standard 4WD. It also brings a more distinctive cabin treatment and suits buyers who want capability with a tougher appearance.
- Denali: This is the luxury pick, with the most distinctive chrome-heavy styling, standard heated and cooled front seats, standard second-row captain’s chairs, and the most premium interior designs. Choose it if you want the most upscale Yukon and are willing to pay for it.
GMC Pro Safety Plus is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above, so safety-package shoppers should keep that trim split in mind.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Yukon?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,448 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.54% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 84.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $47,507.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 GMC Yukon's resale value?
The current average of $47,501 sits slightly below last year's $54,315.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more selectively now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell later. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Yukon’s value is being shaped by a softer market rather than a shortage-driven premium.
Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time, especially for a large SUV with broad capability and premium appeal. If the model continues to attract buyers who want space, towing ability, and a more upscale feel, that should help resale stability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 GMC Yukon safe?
The 2022 GMC Yukon received an overall rating of four-star ratings from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection, five-star ratings for side crash protection, and three-star ratings for rollover resistance.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Yukon comes with GMC Pro Safety, which includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights. GMC Pro Safety Plus adds lane-change alert with blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist, and it is available on SLE and standard on SLT and above.
The main caveat is the rollover result, which is lower than the other NHTSA scores. Even so, the standard driver-assistance suite is broad, and the Yukon’s safety tech coverage is a meaningful strength for family buyers.
Should I buy a 2022 GMC Yukon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a standard 12-inch driver information center and enhanced connectivity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $42,422, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $47,501 average.
- It delivers meaningful gains in space, ride quality, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger mix of current-year pricing, broad inventory, and updated tech, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you want.
