CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Ford Maverick
overall

Summary
With 1,319 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,691.00, 34.0% of 2022 Ford Mavericks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Ford Maverick 4.65 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
85.6% of 2022 Maverick models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Ford Maverick stands out as Ford’s most approachable pickup, and it does so by shrinking the truck formula without abandoning it. It is the smallest Ford truck in over a decade, uses car-like unibody construction for greater refinement, and emphasizes fuel economy with an available hybrid powertrain. That combination gives it a different character from larger, more traditional pickups: it is meant to be easier to live with while still feeling like a real truck.
Ford also kept the Maverick simple, which is part of its appeal. The 2022 Ford Maverick is available in just three trim levels—XL, XLT, and Lariat—with a single bed length and cab configuration. That straightforward lineup helps reinforce its value-focused mission, and the test-drive notes back that up with praise for its great ride quality, excellent value for money, and standard hybrid powertrain. At the same time, the older infotainment system is a drawback, and the limited options on lower trims may leave some buyers wanting more.

I absolutely love this vehicle- I bought it as it is a hybrid small pick up truck. The only thing I wish is that it had cruise control. I understand the XLT models do have it, my XL does not. This is the first Ford I have owned in 30+ years, the competitors do not have any models similar. No small chevy, dodge pickups on the market....

Is the 2022 Ford Maverick a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Ford Maverick earns a 4.65/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its compact size, fuel efficiency, and value for money, and they also like how practical it is for everyday tasks, especially in urban settings. The expert notes reinforce that with praise for its great ride quality, excellent value for money, and standard hybrid powertrain.
The main trade-off is that the older infotainment system lags behind newer setups, and the limited options on lower trims may leave you wanting more equipment.
For shoppers who want a small pickup that is easier to live with than a traditional truck, the Maverick fits that brief well. It also lines up with buyers who want utility without giving up refinement.
With 32.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market.
Is the 2022 Ford Maverick reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners also describe it as dependable for daily use, with recurring praise for its practical nature, fuel efficiency, and value. The expert notes add that the hybrid powertrain feels smoother and more refined than the turbo-four, which supports the sense that it is built to be easy to live with over time.
Ford’s three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty also help reduce early ownership risk.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been cared for and not overused.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Maverick?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, signs of hard use, and whether the truck matches the equipment you expect. Since lower trims can be sparse, make sure the condition and feature set line up with your needs before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features such as alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, heated seats, and available leather upholstery.
- Powertrain: You get a standard hybrid setup with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, a single electric motor, and a CVT, or an optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-four with more power and an eight-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are optional.
- Infotainment: The Maverick uses an 8-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but not wireless versions, and it does not include embedded navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: Ford advertises 40 mpg city for the hybrid, while the EcoBoost is expected to return 26 mpg combined with FWD and 25 mpg combined with AWD.
Which 2022 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?
The 2022 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the value play if you want the Maverick’s core appeal at the lowest entry point. It still gets the standard hybrid powertrain, the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Ford Co-Pilot360 basics, so you are not giving up the truck’s main strengths.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without pushing the Maverick into luxury territory. It is also one of the trims that can be paired with the available FX4 off-road package and luxury upgrades, which makes it the most flexible middle ground.
- Lariat: Choose this if you want the most upscale Maverick experience and are willing to pay for it. It is the trim that supports the richest feature content, including available leather and more premium comfort touches, and it is also eligible for the FX4 package.
The safety package starts with Ford Co-Pilot360, while more advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Maverick?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,338 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.85% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,539.98, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Ford Maverick's resale value?
The current average of $23,641 sits slightly below last year's $25,936.
That price movement suggests the Maverick has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. A lower current entry price can also support demand from used buyers who want a practical truck without paying new-truck money. If you buy well and keep the truck in good condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Ford Maverick safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and evasive steering assist are optional, so you may need to shop higher trims or packages to get the full set.
Crash-test ratings from IIHS and NHTSA are not available yet, so you should lean more heavily on the equipment list and the vehicle’s condition when evaluating a used example.
Should I buy a 2022 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.85% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It delivers a simple, value-focused pickup formula with a standard hybrid powertrain and strong ride quality.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $26,839, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,641 average.
- It adds the Tremor package for buyers who want a more off-road-oriented small truck.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter starting point because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal. If you specifically want the added off-road personality and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the better fit.
