Both engines route power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle-shifters.
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the sDrive30i are 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. The M40i returns 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.
The Z4 comes standard with synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable sport seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Buyers can also select a Harman Kardon premium stereo, as well as M Sport suspension and brakes to bring the sDrive30i’s handling dynamics up to the level of the M40i.
Base MSRP for the 2022 BMW Z4 Roadster is $49,990 for the sDrive30i. The more potent M40i starts at $63,700. Buyers can select a Driving Assistant Package, which adds a number of advanced safety features. The 4cyl is much better value than the 6cyl. The 4cyl has good acceleration. Just make sure you add all performance options. Some features such as wireless phone charging are missing due to chip shortages
