CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Volvo S60
Summary
With 277 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,924, 30.7% of 2021 Volvo S60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Volvo S60 5 / 5 stars.
82.3% of 2021 Volvo S60 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Volvo S60 stands out as a compact luxury sedan that leans hard into Volvo’s core strengths: safety, comfort, and Scandinavian design. It comes from the third generation, which was introduced for the 2019 model year and built on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture platform. That generation also brought the S60 into a more modern era with advanced powertrains and safety technology, while keeping the car’s distinctive character intact. Volvo’s top-down approach shows in the cabin, where even base models include a panoramic moonroof, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch touchscreen. The seats are a major part of the appeal, and the S60’s comfortable front seating and high-quality interior materials help it feel more upscale than its size might suggest.
For 2021, the S60 gained adaptive LED headlamps, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and additional USB-C ports as standard equipment, and the T8 plug-in hybrid was renamed Recharge. That makes this model year especially appealing for buyers who want a well-equipped luxury sedan with strong safety credentials. Every S60 came standard with Volvo’s City Safety collision avoidance system, and the car earned IIHS Top Safety Pick+ recognition in both 2021 and 2022. Buyers could also add the Technology Package for Pilot Assist features such as adaptive radar cruise control, lane-keep assist, a 360-degree camera, and adaptive LED headlamps.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The S60 is not as sporty as some of its European rivals, and rear-seat space is tight. Still, for shoppers who value a stylish sedan with a calm ride, strong standard safety content, and a cabin that feels thoughtfully designed, the 2021 Volvo S60 has a lot going for it.

Well maintained car with spotless interior, low mileage with many electronic features like park assist, lane assist, remote start and automatic wipers. Value was fair compared to other Volvos on other sites.

Is the 2021 Volvo S60 a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2021 Volvo S60 stands out as a compact luxury sedan that leans hard into Volvo’s core strengths: safety, comfort, and Scandinavian design. It also brings a premium-feeling cabin with a panoramic moonroof, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch touchscreen, while the seats and interior materials help it feel more upscale than its size suggests. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a stylish sedan with a calm ride and a well-equipped interior. The market also shows 32.4% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Volvo S60 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2021 Volvo S60’s overview emphasizes safety as a core strength, with standard City Safety collision avoidance and IIHS Top Safety Pick+ recognition for the third generation in 2021 and 2022. It also gained adaptive LED headlamps, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and additional USB-C ports as standard equipment for this model year. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car’s safety and convenience systems have been maintained properly, since those features are a big part of the S60’s appeal.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo S60?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report to confirm the car’s accident status and ownership trail. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin electronics, safety systems, and seat condition, since those are central to the S60’s value proposition. It’s also smart to focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because a well-kept example is more likely to deliver the premium feel you’re paying for.

The current average of $21,982 sits slightly below last year's $22,532.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, softer pricing can mean you may need to be more competitive when it’s time to list the car. Still, the S60’s strong safety story and upscale cabin help support demand among shoppers looking for a premium sedan with a distinctive personality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.44% compared with last year.
