Used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 for Sale nearPhiladelphia, PA

How much does the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 8.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 277 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its quiet cabin, smooth driving experience, and spacious interior, and they also respond well to its performance, comfort, and design. In practical terms, that lines up with an EV that feels approachable if you want a comfortable, mainstream-friendly electric crossover rather than something overly specialized.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out unimpressive electric range, unintuitive technology, and poor visibility. Even so, the ID.4’s positioning as Volkswagen’s first nationwide EV aimed at mainstream buyers makes it a sensible fit if you want a quiet, comfortable electric crossover with broad appeal. Good and great deals account for 34.7% of listings, which suggests there’s still room to shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels reliable and dependable in everyday use, with praise for its smooth driving experience and quiet cabin. That kind of feedback matters for a first-generation EV because it suggests the car is doing the basics well over time, even if some owners mention concerns about backup camera reliability and battery drainage in colder conditions.

The expert review also frames the ID.4 as a familiar, easygoing EV for drivers coming from gasoline cars, which supports the idea that it should be straightforward to live with. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the battery and electronics have aged well and that any recurring software or cold-weather quirks haven’t become expensive headaches.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because even a strong accident-free share doesn’t replace a proper VIN-level review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on battery behavior, charging performance, and any signs of uneven wear or software-related issues. Since this is an EV, pay close attention to how the car has been charged and whether it has been used mostly for home charging or frequent DC fast charging.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base ID.4 Pro uses cloth seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the Pro S and 1st Edition add leatherette upholstery. The higher trims give you a more upscale cabin presentation, so the base model is the one to scrutinize if you want the most value and can live without the extra interior polish.
• Powertrain: At launch, the ID.4 used a single rear-mounted electric motor with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, and an AWD version later added a second motor for more output. The rear-drive setup is described as balanced and smooth, while the AWD version adds traction and stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Those features are standard, so you should mainly confirm they’re functioning properly rather than shopping for a higher trim to unlock them.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 5.3-inch instrument display, and over-the-air capability is not mentioned. The system’s touch-based controls can be frustrating, so make sure you’re comfortable with the interface before you buy.
• Range & charging: The RWD ID.4 Pro S and 1st Edition have an EPA-estimated range of 250 miles, and the base RWD Pro does a bit better at 260 miles. Standard DC fast charging can take the battery from 5% to 80% in 38 minutes, and the battery pack is 82 kWh.
• Battery health: On a used EV, you want to check battery state-of-health, confirm normal charging behavior at home and on DC fast chargers, and review how much of the battery warranty remains. A clean battery history matters more than mileage alone, especially if the car has seen frequent fast charging or cold-weather use.

Which 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 4 trim levels: Pro, Pro S, AWD Pro, AWD Pro S.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value play if you want the ID.4’s core strengths without paying for extra trim content. You still get the standard safety tech and the same basic EV experience, so it makes sense if you care more about price than cabin upgrades.
• Pro S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale interior with leatherette upholstery while keeping the ID.4’s main strengths intact. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort and equipment, this is the one to target.
• AWD Pro: Choose this if you want the added traction and stronger output from the dual-motor setup. It’s the better fit if you expect to drive in tougher weather or simply want more punch.
• AWD Pro S: This is the most fully equipped version in the lineup, combining the upgraded interior feel of the Pro S with the AWD powertrain. It suits you if you want the most complete package and are willing to pay for it.

The standard safety package is a strong point across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up trims just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volkswagen ID.4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 277 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,883, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $18,785 sits slightly below last year's $20,523.

That price movement suggests the ID.4 has already absorbed some of its early depreciation, which can be helpful if you’re thinking about eventual resale. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside left than a shopper who paid closer to the original market peak.

For a future seller, the key is to keep the car in strong condition and preserve the features buyers care about most, especially the battery and driver-assistance systems. A model with broad appeal and a strong ownership reputation should remain easier to move than one with a weaker satisfaction profile.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 earns the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ designation and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, park distance control, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist adds automated lane centering to adaptive cruise control, and Emergency Assist is designed to bring the car to a stop if it detects that the driver is incapacitated.

One caveat is that the NHTSA has not tested the AWD ID.4, so the crash-test result cited here applies to the rear-wheel-drive version. Even so, the standard safety equipment is a major strength, and it helps make the ID.4 an easy EV to recommend if safety is high on your list.

Should I buy a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model is the ID.4’s first nationwide EV rollout, with standard advanced safety features and broad mainstream positioning.

The bottom line: If you want the earliest widely available ID.4 and you value a lower used price, the 2021 is the smart starting point. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-priced listing you can find and compare it carefully against later model years for equipment and condition.
