Why it stands out
The 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI wraps up the seventh generation of this iconic hot hatch with a compelling blend of performance and practicality. Known for its quick and nimble handling, the GTI is led by a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, making every drive exciting. Enhanced with features that elevate the driving experience, like a dynamic suspension system and sharp steering, it fulfills the demands of enthusiasts while remaining comfortable for everyday use.
Despite its impressive credentials, the GTI also highlights some drawbacks, such as a ride that can feel rough on regular roads—a trade-off for its exceptional handling prowess. The GTI line peaked at the mk7.5 model in terms of overall value. It’s got the best silhouette and cabin design in my opinion. And there’s plenty of technology to pair with the exceptional driving experience we’ve come to expect from the iconic 7-speed DSG 4 cylinder engine. If you’re like me, who isn’t too fond of the redesign of the mk8 both exterior and interior alike…I think the mk7 is the perfect option.
