How much does the 2021 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 2.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,236 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, excellent gas mileage, and stylish design, and they also like how much equipment Toyota packs in for city driving. The expert review adds that the Corolla feels more engaging than many shoppers expect, especially in SE and XSE form, where it becomes more enjoyable to drive.

The trade-offs are that it can be noisy and its technology feels outdated. Even so, the Corolla’s compact-sedan mission still comes through clearly: it is aimed at buyers who want affordability, efficiency, and a more involved daily driver than the typical commuter car.

With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert review reinforces that with language about affordability, reliability, efficiency, and a bulletproof reputation. It also describes the Corolla as dependable and thrifty, which lines up with the kind of ownership experience many used-car shoppers want.

Toyota also includes a free maintenance plan for two years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Corolla’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

At 63.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had body damage or multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and whether the car’s equipment and safety systems work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE and XSE add sport-design bumpers, a mesh grille insert, a subtle body kit, a twin-outlet exhaust, and 18-inch aluminum wheels, while the L, LE, and XLE are the more anonymous choices.
• Powertrain: The SE and XSE use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a Dynamic Shift CVT, paddle shifters, and a Sport driving mode; a six-speed manual is available with SE.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and more. Rear side-impact airbags are standard, and blind-spot warning gains rear cross-traffic warning functionality.
• Infotainment: The Corolla includes an 8-inch touchscreen on SE, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and standard Service Connect and Remote Connect on XSE.
• Fuel efficiency: The XSE is rated at 34 mpg combined, and the review’s real-world test returned 31.1 mpg.

Which 2021 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Corolla is offered in 3 trim levels: L, LE, XLE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest path into the Corolla, but the review makes clear that the more appealing personality and richer equipment show up higher in the lineup.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the Corolla’s core strengths while avoiding the extra cost of the sportier versions.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, but the review suggests the added cost is harder to justify than the LE.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Corolla?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,236 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,496, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $17,047 sits slightly below last year's $17,544.

That softer pricing suggests the Corolla has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than a year ago.

Even so, the Corolla’s reputation for reliability and efficiency helps support demand. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than many compact cars because shoppers continue to value the nameplate’s practical appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2021 Corolla earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 comes standard, with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-centering assistance, automatic high-beam headlights, and more. Rear side-impact airbags are also standard, and the available blind-spot warning system adds rear cross-traffic warning.

The expert review notes that adaptive cruise control can brake unevenly at times and lane-centering assistance may need driver override occasionally. Those are not dealbreakers, but they are worth knowing if you expect the driver-assistance systems to feel seamless in daily use.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds standard Android Auto and a more engaging SE/XSE driving character.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $16,580, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $17,047 average.
• It adds style and a bit of excitement to the Corolla formula.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $18,403, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,047 average.
• It broadens the Corolla lineup with sedan, hatchback, and hybrid choices.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and a more engaging Corolla experience, the 2021 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want more configuration flexibility and are willing to pay more.
