How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 12.69% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 876 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the blend of luxury, performance, and beautiful design, along with the powerful engine and comfortable interior. The feedback also points to advanced features as a major draw, which lines up with the car’s strong technology reputation.

The main trade-offs are that it can feel overpriced and some buyers want a more premium-feeling material mix. In context, this is a highly versatile luxury sedan that can be tailored toward comfort, performance, or efficiency, so it fits best if you want breadth and refinement rather than a simple, stripped-down luxury car.

Good and great deals account for 32.2% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling blend of luxury, performance, and comfort, and it also points to a car that many drivers enjoy living with over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that it is a quiet and excellent choice for a car this size, with a do-it-all character that supports everyday use.

The ownership risk for used buyers is mainly tied to condition and maintenance history, since a premium car like this can become expensive if it has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some desirable features were optional.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is richly finished even in baser trims, but the Luxury package’s softer-riding setup and classic hood ornament are no longer part of the lineup, and the Sport style is more common among buyers.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes four engines, from the underwhelming base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder to electrified inline-six powertrains and the high-output AMG V8.
• Safety package: Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while all other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: The car uses MBUX with two 12-inch screens, touch and swipe controls, natural voice processing, and online search, but it does not update over-the-air and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The E53 sedan is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, the E450 4Matic sedan at 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, and the E350 4Matic sedan at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 13 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E63 S, sedan, wagon, coupe, convertible, Luxury package, Sport package, E350 4Matic, E450 4Matic, and 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• E350: This is the entry point, but the base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is described as underwhelming, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest-cost way into the E-Class.
• E450: This is the best-value choice if you want the strongest balance of power and refinement, since the electrified inline-six is described as quiet and excellent for a car this size.
• AMG E53: Choose this if you want the sharper performance character, brisk acceleration, and the variable-rate air suspension without giving up comfort.
• AMG E63 S: This is the full-performance choice, with a hand-built V8, 603 hp, and a much more extreme chassis setup than the rest of the lineup.

Forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while all other driver-assist features are optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 876 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,857, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $35,936 sits slightly below last year's $41,158.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the softer pricing means you should pay close attention to purchase price and condition, because those factors will matter more when it is time to exit.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The 2021 E-Class sedan and wagon scored a five-star overall rating and five stars in frontal and side crash tests and for rollover vulnerability from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, the driver's side received a four-star rating in the frontal crash test versus the full five stars for 2020.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The E-Class includes forward automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring as standard equipment. Other driver-assist features are optional, so you should verify exactly which systems are fitted on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $29,840, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $35,936 average.
• It offers a stylish design and impressive technology with a more affordable entry point.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,997, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,936 average.
• It keeps the refreshed formula and adds standard automatic high-beam headlights.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want the refreshed E-Class experience and can accept its premium pricing. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the later-year updates and do not mind paying more.
