CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Mazda MAZDA6
overall

Summary
With 175 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,113.00, 25.7% of 2021 Mazda MAZDA6s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
66.9% of 2021 MAZDA6 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out in the midsize sedan class because it is aimed squarely at drivers who care about how a car feels from behind the wheel. CarGurus describes it as an alluring but not obvious choice, and says that for people who love to drive, it is an irresistible one. That character is reinforced by its stylish design, premium interior materials, and the sense that it remains one of the more attractive and high-quality family sedans on the market.
Its age is part of the story, too. The Mazda6 hasn’t been completely redesigned since 2014, which makes it one of the older members of its class, and it is not a top-seller, so it is relatively rare on the road. Even so, the car’s familiar look has not dulled its appeal, and the driving experience remains a major strength. The perfectly shaped steering wheel and the car’s fun-to-drive nature help explain why it still feels special.
There are tradeoffs, though. All-wheel drive is not available, and the technology is described as outdated. For buyers who want a sedan that emphasizes style, quality, and driving enjoyment over the latest features, the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 remains a distinctive choice.

The Mazda line of vehicles always punch up compared to their peers. How so? Well for the price Mazda has leather upholstery, premium sound, great driving dynamics, and tech comparable to vehicles in the luxury category. This car is a Great Value for what you are getting, some new cars dont have the same level of features and are $20k higher. The only down side is that the 2021 model year was the end for the prior model of the Mazda 6, but with a new revamped version to be hitting the market soon there is hope that this stellar car will be brought back to the US.

How much does the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,249 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,711.95 |
| Year-Round High | $20,558.92 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,569 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.55% |
Prices have softened 1.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 182 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $18,711.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Safety.
It stands out as a midsize sedan aimed at drivers who care about how a car feels from behind the wheel, with stylish design, premium interior materials, and a strong sense of quality. It is also one of the older members of its class, and its technology is described as outdated.
The main trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and the tech interface lags newer rivals. Even so, if you want a family sedan that emphasizes driving enjoyment, style, and a premium feel over the latest gadgetry, this one fits that brief well.
With 35.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is presented as a durable, well-sorted sedan that has been around long enough to prove its basic formula. Its safety systems are described as smooth, accurate, and predictable in use, and the car’s overall design and equipment strategy suggest a focus on satisfying owners rather than chasing gimmicks.
Mazda also emphasizes value through generous standard equipment and a reasonable price, which can help reduce the frustration that sometimes comes with living with an older vehicle. The available turbocharged setup and mainstream mechanical layout should make ownership straightforward for a used-car buyer who keeps up with maintenance.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that an older design can mean more age-related wear and a greater chance that technology will feel dated sooner than the rest of the car.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car is priced near the low end of the market. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the trim being advertised.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport and Touring use a 186-horsepower Skyactiv 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the rest get a turbocharged 250-hp version of that powerplant. The Carbon Edition adds exclusive Polymetal Gray paint, red leather and contrast stitching, and black metallic wheels, and it is based on the Grand Touring Reserve trim level. The Signature trim adds brilliant silver 19-inch wheels, an exclusive Gunmetal-finish grille, Deep Chestnut brown premium Nappa leather upholstery, genuine Sen wood interior trim, LED interior lighting, a black headliner, and Ultrasuede door panel and dashboard inserts.
- Powertrain: Most versions use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque on 93-octane fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87-octane fuel. A six-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode sends power to the front wheels, and all-wheel drive is not available. The EPA says the turbo model gets 26 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Every 2021 Mazda6 includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Starting with the Grand Touring Reserve trim, it adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display. The Signature trim adds driver-attention alert, traffic-sign recognition, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.
- Infotainment: The system uses an 8-inch screen and includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, internet radio, text-messaging support, and E911 automatic emergency notification. Grand Touring trim and higher add wireless Apple CarPlay, three free months of SiriusXM satellite radio, and an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system. The Signature trim adds an embedded navigation system and three years of SiriusXM Travel Link services.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged model is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 26.1 mpg.
Which 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Carbon Edition, and Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mazda6’s core appeal: stylish design, a premium-feeling cabin, and the 186-horsepower Skyactiv 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and care more about the driving experience than extra tech.
- Touring: This trim keeps the same 186-horsepower engine but moves you up from the base setup. It is the better choice if you want a more complete version of the Mazda6 without jumping into the turbocharged trims.
- Grand Touring: This is the first trim to get the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, plus wireless Apple CarPlay, three free months of SiriusXM satellite radio, and an 11-speaker Bose premium audio system. It is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and tech upgrades without going all the way to the top.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This trim builds on the turbocharged setup and adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display. It suits you if you want more convenience and a richer feature set.
- Carbon Edition: Based on the Grand Touring Reserve, this trim adds exclusive Polymetal Gray paint, red leather and contrast stitching, and black metallic wheels. It is the pick if you want a more distinctive look and a more special-feeling cabin.
- Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with premium Nappa leather, genuine Sen wood trim, LED interior lighting, an exclusive grille, embedded navigation, and the most complete safety-tech package. It is the right choice if you want the most upscale Mazda6 experience.
Starting with the Grand Touring Reserve trim, the Mazda6 adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display. The Signature trim rounds out the safety-tech offerings with driver-attention alert, traffic-sign recognition, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda MAZDA6?

- Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 182 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,711.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $20,249 sits slightly below last year's $20,569.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a better price today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal rather than on broad market momentum alone.
Because the Mazda6 is a style- and driving-focused sedan with a loyal audience, well-kept examples should still attract interest. If you buy smart and maintain the car well, you can help protect your exit value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?
The Mazda6 earns the IIHS's Top Safety Pick+ rating, and NHTSA gives it five-star ratings in nearly every assessment.

Starting with the Grand Touring Reserve trim, the Mazda6 adds adaptive headlights, a wiper de-icer system, and an Active Driving Display. The Signature trim adds driver-attention alert, traffic-sign recognition, rear automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, and front and rear parking sensors.
One caveat is that the Mazda6 does not include a lane-centering function, which some rivals offer.
Should I buy a 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is an alluring, stylish midsize sedan that prioritizes driving enjoyment, premium materials, and a high-quality feel over the latest tech.
The bottom line: If you want a used midsize sedan that feels special from behind the wheel and you value style and quality, the 2021 Mazda MAZDA6 is the primary path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the trims and listings that sit near the lower end of the market range, but still verify history and condition carefully before you buy.
