How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 7.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,513 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

Yes — the 4.83/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.67/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. The Tucson’s appeal also comes through in its stylish design and easy-to-use technology, which fit well if you want a well-equipped compact SUV without chasing the newest redesign.

The trade-offs are clear: sluggish performance, an underwhelming base engine, and noise. Even so, the Tucson’s value-focused setup makes the most sense if you care more about everyday usability and features than quick acceleration.

Good and great deals account for 39.2% of listings, so there is meaningful market flexibility if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable and dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its overall livability and the sense that it delivers a lot for the money. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Tucson is a practical, value-oriented compact SUV with a comfortable ride and a well-rounded feature set.

Its 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty adds another ownership advantage, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether a given example has been maintained well and avoided hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, prior damage, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level being advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, a digital driver information display, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add features such as heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera system, and an 8-inch touchscreen, so the base trim leaves out a lot of convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.4-liter four-cylinder makes 181 hp and 175 lb-ft. Both use a six-speed automatic and are offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are reserved for upper trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch touchscreen is available, and the larger screen can be paired with navigation, satellite radio, and wireless device charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. Other versions are rated at 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined; 22 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined; or 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Limited, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value entry point, and it gives you the core Tucson formula with the standard 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the basic safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up.
• Value: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, roof rails, HD radio, satellite radio, and LED headlight accents without jumping too far in price. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and affordability, this is the trim to target.
• SEL: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-seat USB power outlet. It is a good fit if you want a more polished daily driver and can spend a bit more for comfort.
• Sport: This trim brings 19-inch alloy wheels, LED head-and-taillights, fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, wireless device charging, and an Infinity premium audio system. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel and extra convenience features.
• Limited: This trim adds a 360-degree camera system, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and integrated side-mirror turn signals. It is the right pick if you want a more premium Tucson experience.
• Ultimate: This top trim adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, a color trip computer, and a panoramic sunroof. Choose it if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Upper trims are where you also gain features like adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, and the 360-degree parking monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,513 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,170, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $17,218 sits slightly below last year's $18,669.

That decline suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, since the market is already pricing in some depreciation.

The good news is that a well-kept Tucson with desirable equipment should still appeal to value-focused shoppers. Strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. If you want adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, or blind-spot monitoring, you need to move up to upper-tier trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the final model year of this generation, with plenty of tech and safety features at a competitive price.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $20,079, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $17,218 average.
• It brings a redesigned, larger body with more cargo and passenger space.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong equipment and solid owner satisfaction. If you care most about extra space and a newer redesign, the 2022 is the better path, but you will pay more for it.
