How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 8.13% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,476 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. The overview also points to a stylish design, a comfortable ride, and easy-to-use technology, which fits buyers who want a well-equipped compact SUV without chasing the newest redesign. The main trade-offs are sluggish performance, an underwhelming base engine, and noise, so you should expect value and comfort more than quick acceleration. Good and great deals account for 34.7% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise centered on comfort and features that hold up well over time. The expert review reinforces that this is a value-focused SUV with a strong warranty and a practical, everyday-friendly setup. Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty adds another layer of confidence for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright reliability and more about finding a well-kept example with the equipment you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any listing you like, even if the price looks attractive. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the SUV has higher mileage, missing equipment, or signs of uneven wear. Focus on condition, feature content, and whether the trim level matches what you expect from the listing photos and description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE starts with 17-inch alloy wheels, manually adjustable front seats, a digital driver information display, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add features such as heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless device charging, leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera system, and an 8-inch touchscreen, so base-trim shoppers should check carefully for the equipment gaps that matter most to them.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.4-liter four-cylinder makes 181 hp and 175 lb-ft. Both pair with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available. The base engine feels underwhelming, while the 2.4-liter is the better choice if you want more everyday responsiveness.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are reserved for upper-tier trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims, and other available tech includes navigation, satellite radio, and wireless device charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 23 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The AWD version of the 2.0-liter model returns 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The 2.4-liter engine with FWD returns 22 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined, while AWD brings that to 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, Value, SEL, Sport, Limited, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the least expensive way into the Tucson, and it gives you the core infotainment and safety basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable skipping the nicer comfort and convenience upgrades.
• Value: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, roof rails, HD radio, satellite radio, and LED headlight accents without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SEL: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-seat USB power outlet, making it a smart middle-ground choice if you want more everyday comfort and convenience.
• Sport: This trim brings 19-inch wheels, LED head-and-taillights, fog lights, a hands-free power liftgate, wireless device charging, and an Infinity premium audio system, so it suits you if you want a more upscale feel.
• Limited: This trim adds a 360-degree camera system, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and integrated side-mirror turn signals, making it the strongest pick if you want a more premium Tucson experience.
• Ultimate: This top trim adds the 8-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a panoramic sunroof, so it is the one to choose if you want the most equipment.

Upper-tier trims are where you’ll find features like adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, blind-spot monitoring, and the 360-degree parking monitor.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,476 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,972, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $16,972 sits slightly below last year's $18,474.

That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help keep demand healthy in the near term. For a future seller, the softer market means you may need to price competitively to stand out. The good news is that the Tucson’s value-oriented reputation and broad appeal can help support interest when your vehicle is clean, well maintained, and properly equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Tucson comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and driver drowsiness monitoring. If you want adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high-beams, a 360-degree parking monitor, or blind-spot monitoring, you’ll need to move up to upper-tier trims. That means the safety story is strong overall, but the most advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the final model year of its generation, with plenty of tech and safety features at a competitive price.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,786, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $16,972 average.
• It brings a larger, redesigned body with more room.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2021 if you want the better value and are comfortable with the older generation’s familiar packaging. If you want more interior space and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is the better long-term fit.

How does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson compare to the 2021 Kia Sportage?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Hyundai Tucson:

• Pros: Stylish design, Comfortable, Easy-to-use technology.
• Cons: Sluggish performance, Underwhelming base engine, Noisy.

2021 Kia Sportage:

• Pros: Stylish design, Great warranty, Easy-to-use technology.
• Cons: Fairly pedestrian performance, Outdated technology, Not much cargo space.

Our experts score the 2021 Hyundai Tucson 7.7/10 and the 2021 Kia Sportage 7.5/10. The Tucson has the slight edge overall, mainly because its tech is easier to use and its comfort is a stronger fit for daily driving. The Sportage counters with a great warranty, but its outdated technology and limited cargo space make it the less compelling pick here.
