Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline stands out by bringing a hefty dose of truck personality to a midsize crew cab pickup. Honda’s styling, packaging, and functionality changes give it a more truck-like appearance, which helps it appeal to buyers who want a pickup that looks the part without giving up the Ridgeline’s familiar approach to everyday usability. Its stylish design is one of its clear strengths, and the truck also earns praise for its powerful engine and great handling.
That appeal is balanced by some practical limitations. The 2021 Honda Ridgeline offers no alternate bed or cab configurations, and its towing and payload capacities are limited. Even so, it remains distinctive for shoppers who value comfort, a smooth driving experience, and a spacious interior in a pickup, along with the Ridgeline’s innovative truck bed and cargo space.

This is a great design for someone who needs a truck but not a 1/2 ton pickup. I am very happy with the way it drives and the technology that is included. I haven’t towed anything with it yet but I am confident that it will do what I need. I bought the RTL model because it had leather interior and a Sirius radio. II guess the most direct comparison will be the Hyundai Santa Cruz or the Ford Marverick. However it is more capable in many woes over those two models.

Love the features of this truck. Drives nice and comfortable. My first truck and it was a simple process to find it through CarGurus!

2021 Ridgeline RTL-E - Loaded with great features and very comfortable to drive. Great visibility. Lots of cargo space. Drives like a big car. Great for winter driving with AWD. This is my second Ridgeline. Drove a 2013 for 10 years. Loved it. Loving this one too. Perfect for someone who wants a truck but doesnt need the size of something like a F250.

I decided on the Honda Ridgeline. I have to say, in terms of refinement, sophistication, features, driveability, interior space, etc., Honda is light years ahead of the competition [Tacoma, Ranger and Canyon/Colorado]. The Tacoma and Ranger were pretty similar, but I think Ford upped their game lately – more so than Toyota. The GMC/Chev trucks are bottom of the barrel, not worth considering. I would concede that – if someone is looking first and foremost for serious off-roading features/capability, trucks along the lines of the Tacoma will top of their list. However, for me -- valuing year round city/highway driveability over off-roading adventures -- the Ridgeline makes a lot of sense.

For you, that means the Ridgeline makes the most sense if you want a pickup that feels easy to live with every day rather than one built around maximum truck capability. Good and great deals account for 32.8% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable, comfortable, and well suited to long-term use, with many drivers highlighting its smooth ride and practical cargo space. The review summary also emphasizes that owners value its trouble-free everyday usability and the confidence it inspires over time.
On the expert side, the Ridgeline is described as powerful, smooth, and refined, with a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system that helps it feel composed in daily driving. Honda also includes a package of advanced driver-assistance features that should support confidence in routine use.
If you plan to keep it for the long haul, your main ownership risk is less about basic livability and more about accepting its built-in limits on truck-style work.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a careful inspection of the truck bed, cabin wear, and any signs that the vehicle was used for heavier-duty hauling or towing. Because this model is valued for comfort and everyday usability, condition matters a lot when you compare examples.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport trim is the only one with cloth seats, and it is the most basic version of the lineup. Higher trims add more convenience and comfort features, while the top trims also include automatic high-beam headlights.
- Powertrain: Every Ridgeline uses a 280-horsepower V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. It is tuned for smooth, refined driving rather than rock-crawling capability.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is standard on all but the Sport.
- Infotainment: Every model gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging, and basic HondaLink services. Higher trims add SiriusXM, HD Radio, navigation, voice recognition, traffic information, a premium sound system, and wireless smartphone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the available data.
Which 2021 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Ridgeline formula without the extra comfort and tech upgrades found higher up. It is the right pick if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and can live without the added convenience features.
- RTL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you beyond the bare essentials while staying focused on everyday comfort and usability. It is the trim to target if you want a more polished experience without stretching to the top end.
- RTL-E: This trim adds more of the convenience and technology upgrades that make the Ridgeline feel more premium in daily use. It suits you if you want a richer feature set and plan to keep the truck for a while.
- Black Edition: This is the range-topper, so it is the one to choose if you want the most upscale presentation and the fullest equipment set. It makes the most sense if you want the most complete Ridgeline experience and are willing to pay for it.
Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is standard for all but the Sport, and the top trims include automatic high-beam headlights.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Ridgeline?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 795 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.13% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,165, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $27,726 sits slightly below last year's $29,224.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also temper what you can expect later if you sell. If prices remain near the current level, future resale should stay reasonable rather than especially strong.
The Ridgeline's appeal to buyers who want comfort, utility, and everyday drivability should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Ridgeline safe?
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on every Ridgeline and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and lane-centering assistance. The truck also includes a multi-angle reversing camera.
There is a caveat to keep in mind: the expert drive notes describe a false detection from adaptive cruise control that triggered sudden braking in traffic. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is standard on all but the Sport, so you should pay close attention to trim differences if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.13% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a more truck-like look while keeping the Ridgeline’s everyday usability.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $25,744, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $27,726 average.
- It blends truck usefulness with comfort and superior driving dynamics.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,583, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,726 average.
- It carries over the facelifted formula with a refined, comfortable, quiet driving experience.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2020 is worth a look; if you want to spend more for a newer example, the 2022 is the next step up.
