CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 1,176 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,684.00, 33.1% of 2021 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda Odyssey 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
66.4% of 2021 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Odyssey stands out as a family-focused minivan that blends improved safety, upgraded technology, enhanced utility, and spruced-up styling. It is presented as a freshened model that is ready to defend its turf against revitalized competitors, and that positioning fits its appeal: it aims to make daily life easier by reducing friction when carrying passengers, cargo, or both. For buyers who want a practical vehicle that still feels thoughtfully updated, that combination is a major part of its draw.
Space is one of the Odyssey’s clearest strengths. It is described as spacious, with a spacious third row, which supports its role as a people mover for families. The styling is also a plus, giving the minivan a more polished presence than the stereotype suggests. Owners echo that family-friendly mission, praising its space and safety features as well as its helpful features for families and good drivability.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2021 Honda Odyssey is not available as a hybrid, all-wheel drive is not available, and it is not as luxurious as its competitors. Even so, its mix of roominess, usability, and updated presentation makes it a compelling choice for shoppers who value everyday convenience over flashier hardware.

Car is great. Handles well and has space. Great family car. Steering wheel could use a motorized function for adjusting height and distance. Power 3rd row seats could be cool as well.

Love the vehicle! Just don’t care for the darker color wheels.

This is my 3rd Honda Odyssey, so the car works well for me. I’d still like to see a modification to fold the seats into the floor (like the Chrysler Pacifica) now that Chrysler/Dodge’s patent on that design has expired. At least the 2nd row seats come completely out - they are just really heavy and awkward to move. I miss the compartment under the center dashboard - it was nice storage. I also miss the blind spot camera that I had in my 2014 that gave you a view for lane changing.

| Change vs. Last Year | −5.78% |
Prices have softened 5.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,222 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
If you find a listing below $26,323.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its space, safety features, and family-friendly usefulness, and they also call out its good drivability. The main trade-offs are that some owners want more convenient seat folding and more interior storage, while the expert review notes that it is not as luxurious as some rivals and does not offer all-wheel drive.
For you, that means the Odyssey makes the most sense if you want a practical family hauler that reduces daily hassle and still feels thoughtfully updated. It also fits shoppers who value room for passengers and cargo over flashier hardware.
With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market softness to make comparison shopping worthwhile.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the van’s family usefulness and day-to-day confidence. On the expert side, the drivetrain is described as a terrific combination that supplies smooth, effortless power, and Honda’s fuel-saving cylinder-management system supports efficient operation under light loads.
Honda also adds a new electronic brake booster for 2021, which is tied to improved brake pedal feel and response. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a family vehicle with this much use can hide wear, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
At 66.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used heavily for family duty. Focus on signs of interior wear, brake condition, and how well the sliding doors, seats, and infotainment features operate in real-world use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base LX trim gets standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation and Honda Sensing, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning still requires at least EX trim.
- Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with a ten-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels, and the engine uses variable cylinder management to help conserve fuel.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is not standard on LX.
- Infotainment: Starting with EX trim, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and a Cabin Control smartphone app. Touring adds navigation, HondaLink subscription plans, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, and CabinTalk, while Elite adds an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening, and wireless smartphone charging.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says it should get 22 mpg in combined driving, and testing returned 21.8 mpg.
Which 2021 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it already gives you standard LED headlights with automatic high beams plus Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Odyssey, but you give up the blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning system that starts at EX.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the Cabin Control smartphone app while also unlocking blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning. If you want the most useful mix of safety and tech without stretching too far, this is the trim to target.
- EX-L: This trim builds on EX with a more upscale feel and is a sensible step up if you want more comfort and refinement without jumping to the pricier Touring features.
- Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the Odyssey’s family-tech experience at its fullest, including navigation, WiFi capability, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, and the rear-seat entertainment system.
- Elite: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most premium cabin, with perforated leather upholstery, ambient lighting, an 11-speaker premium sound system, multi-zone listening, and wireless smartphone charging.
Honda Sensing is standard on base LX, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning requires at least EX.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,222 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,323.44, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $26,659 sits slightly below last year's $28,293.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is to buy a clean, well-kept example and avoid overpaying for a higher trim unless you will use the extra equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey safe?
The 2021 Honda Odyssey should once again earn a Top Safety Pick recommendation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star score.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard on base LX and includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick ADAS access. If you want blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, you still need to move up to EX trim.
One caveat is that the ADAS can feel a little abrupt in real traffic, and the lane-departure warning system uses steering-wheel movement rather than vibration. Even so, the safety package is broad, and the standard equipment gives you a strong foundation for family use.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 brings freshened styling, upgraded technology, and improved safety.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,818, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $26,659 average.
- It adds no changes, so you are mainly paying more for the next model year.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a well-rounded safety story. If you are price-sensitive, the 2021 is the clear path; if you simply want the newer model year and do not mind paying more for essentially the same formula, the 2022 is the fallback.
