How much does the 2021 Honda CR-V cost?

Prices have softened 3.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,867 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda CR-V earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious and comfortable interior, the excellent fuel economy, and the strong safety features. The model also gets credit for being reliable and for delivering the kind of long-term satisfaction that keeps buyers coming back.

The trade-offs are familiar: the styling is uninspired, and the engine can feel short on power when you need to merge or pass. That fits the CR-V’s role as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact SUV rather than a flashy one.

With its roomy cabin, broad appeal, and value-focused positioning, it makes the most sense if you want a sensible daily driver instead of a performance-first crossover. The market also shows 37.7% good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, highly rated vehicle that many shoppers feel confident keeping for the long haul. That kind of repeat satisfaction matters when you’re buying used, because it often reflects a model that has proven easy to live with over time.

The expert review also reinforces the CR-V’s dependable, low-drama character by emphasizing smooth, steady acceleration and predictable cornering rather than complexity or flash. Honda’s standard safety package is also a sign of thoughtful ownership value, and the base trim still gets most of the important equipment.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not dramatic mechanical drama so much as finding a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history will matter more than the model’s basic formula.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda CR-V?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim being advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX has the most basic setup, including a 5-inch screen and fewer convenience features, while higher trims add a 7-inch touchscreen, more audio equipment, and more upscale interior touches.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and CVT, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive available on most trims.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not on the LX.
• Infotainment: The base LX gets a 5-inch color screen with Bluetooth, while every other trim gets a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda CR-V is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value entry point, but it is the most stripped-down version, with the smallest screen and the fewest convenience features. It still gets the full Honda Sensing safety suite, so it makes sense if your priority is price and standard safety over comfort tech.
• Special Edition: This trim adds more everyday usability than the LX and is a sensible step up if you want a better-equipped cabin without moving too far up the price ladder.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the more useful infotainment setup and keeps the CR-V’s core strengths intact while improving day-to-day livability.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, since it adds more premium interior and audio upgrades over the EX.
• Touring: This is the most feature-rich version, with the strongest audio setup, navigation, and a wireless phone charger, so it suits you best if you want the most convenience and tech.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim, but blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts on the EX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda CR-V?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,867 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,307, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $23,979 sits slightly below last year's $24,889.

That softer pricing suggests the CR-V is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the vehicle in good condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later.

The model’s broad appeal also helps support resale strength, because shoppers continue to value its practicality, safety, and reputation for satisfaction. That makes it easier to imagine steady demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2021 Honda CR-V earned both a Top Safety Pick award from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim and includes a multi-angle rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam headlamps. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard starting on the EX.

The main caveat is that it did not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ designation because of lower headlight scores and the updated side crash test. The original side crash test was rated Good, while LATCH ease of use was rated Acceptable.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its standard advanced safety features and strong value positioning.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,430, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $23,979 average.
• It is a polished, easy-to-live-with compact SUV with engine and safety upgrades.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market mix of inventory, deal availability, and safety reputation, the 2021 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the CR-V’s core practicality.
