Used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD cost?

Prices have softened 7.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,130 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

The Silverado 3500HD is built for serious towing and hauling, but the overview also frames it as a truck that can still fit into daily life. That balance is reinforced by the expert notes on its easy-to-use technology and plenty of cargo space.

The main trade-offs are its potentially polarizing design and poor visibility over the front hood, which can matter if you spend a lot of time maneuvering in tight spaces. If you want heavy-duty capability without giving up all-around usability, this model year fits that brief well.

32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview and expert notes both point to a truck that is engineered around durability and hard use, with the kind of capability you expect from a heavy-duty pickup. The performance write-up also emphasizes that both engines make terrific power and that the diesel’s 10-speed automatic helps keep it in the ideal gear for optimal performance.

On the ownership side, the cost-effectiveness notes mention a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. Fuel economy is not a strength, though, and you should expect heavy-duty-truck efficiency rather than anything close to a light-duty pickup.

For used shoppers, the main long-term risk is the usual heavy-duty-truck wear that can come from towing, hauling, and high-mileage work use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because heavy-duty trucks are often used hard even when they look clean on paper. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of towing wear, body damage, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the way you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The W/T starts with two USB ports, vinyl seat trim, two-tier trailering mirrors, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The LT adds cloth seating, body-color door handles, Chevy’s EZ lift-and-lower tailgate, a 4.2-inch driver information display, an integrated trailer brake controller, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The LTZ adds chrome exterior accents, leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, 120-volt wall-style power outlets, and side mirrors that extend and have integrated turn signals. The High Country adds heated and ventilated front seats, chrome side steps, a Bose premium sound system, and a spray-in bed-liner.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.6-liter V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or an optional Duramax turbodiesel 6.6-liter V8 with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Both engines can be paired with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive with low range, and the diesel uses an Allison 10-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The truck comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system are available, but not standard.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen. Upgraded trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the High Country adds navigation. The system is described as easy to use, with hard buttons and dials, plus a helpful home button. Trailering camera guidelines and additional camera angles are also available.
• Fuel efficiency: Drivers can expect fuel economy between 12 and 15 mpg.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is offered in 4 trim levels: W/T (or Work Truck), LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• W/T (or Work Truck): This is the most basic way into the Silverado 3500HD, but it still gives you the essentials you need for work, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and trailering mirrors. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and plan to keep the truck focused on utility.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a larger 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated trailer brake controller, a WiFi hotspot, and the EZ lift-and-lower tailgate. If you want a better mix of convenience and capability without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• LTZ: This trim is the step up for buyers who want more comfort and trailering tech, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone climate control, and the advanced trailering system. It suits you if you plan to spend more time in the truck and want a more upscale feel.
• High Country: This is the range-topping luxury trim, with heated and ventilated front seats, a Bose premium sound system, navigation, and a spray-in bed-liner. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience the Silverado 3500HD offers.

For safety, the truck’s more advanced driver-assistance features are extra rather than standard, so check the equipment list carefully on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,130 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $45,901, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $45,901 sits slightly below last year's $49,376.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more truck for the money today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck was maintained.

Because heavy-duty trucks are often used for demanding work, clean history and strong equipment can matter a lot when it comes time to sell. A well-kept example should still attract buyers who need towing and hauling capability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD safe?

The Silverado comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content also makes clear that several helpful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, including forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system. That matters on a truck of this size, especially if you do a lot of parking or trailering.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Full-size heavy-duty trucks are built with a purpose, and this year’s Silverado 3500HD is described as delivering on day-to-day needs while also being one of the most capable vehicles on the road.

The bottom line: The 2021 Silverado 3500HD is the right path if you want heavy-duty capability, strong towing hardware, and a broad trim range at a softer used-market price. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the listings closely and focus on clean-history trucks with the equipment you actually need.
