How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 6.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,161 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its impressive power, spacious interior, and robust features, and many also like the comfortable ride and strong 6.6 gas engine. The truck’s flexibility also stands out, with multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options making it easier to match your needs.

The trade-offs are the cheaper-feeling interior materials and some limitations in safety features, along with a cabin that doesn’t feel especially upscale. For you, that means this Silverado makes the most sense if you want heavy-duty capability and useful equipment more than luxury polish.

Good and great deals percentage: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers highlighting its power, comfortable ride, and robust feature set. The summary also emphasizes that owners appreciate the spacious interior and the truck’s ability to handle demanding work without feeling flimsy.

The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Silverado HD as plenty capable and easy to live with on the highway. It also notes that Chevrolet includes a broad set of standard equipment, including a rearview camera, stability control, traction control, and tire-pressure monitoring.

Chevrolet also makes maintenance and ownership easier to manage by offering a large number of options and packages at nearly every trim level, which can help you avoid immediate aftermarket add-ons. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a hard-worked truck may show wear quickly, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any truck you’re considering, because heavy-duty pickups are often used for towing and work. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of hard use, especially around the bed, hitch area, and cabin wear points. You’ll also want to pay close attention to how the truck was equipped, since trim and package content can vary a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Work Truck and Custom models can be equipped with the Safety Confidence Package, while LT models add the EZ Lift tailgate and can be had with Duramax and Appearance Packages.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel, and the diesel is the stronger tow-focused option.
• Safety package: The Safety Confidence Package includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, steering-wheel audio controls, a 4.2-inch driver information screen, and cruise control.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, while available upgrades include an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel-economy figures are not provided for this heavy-duty truck.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the Silverado HD lineup and plan to use it mainly as a work truck.
• Custom: This trim is a better fit if you want a little more equipment than the Work Truck while still keeping the truck focused on utility and value.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful equipment like the EZ Lift tailgate and can be paired with Duramax and Appearance Packages.
• LTZ: Choose this if you want a more upscale mix of features and more available customization, especially if you plan to build out the truck with options.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice if you want the most premium version of the Silverado 2500HD, though the cabin still trails some rivals in refinement.

For safety-minded shoppers, note that the Safety Confidence Package is available on Work Truck and Custom models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the best trucks.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,161 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $39,729, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $39,859 sits slightly below last year's $42,501.

That decline suggests the truck has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect pricing pressure unless your truck is especially clean, well-equipped, or lightly used.

The Silverado’s broad appeal and strong capability help support demand, especially among buyers who want a heavy-duty truck with multiple configurations. Trucks with the right equipment and a clean history should hold up better than average, but condition will matter a lot in this segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

The Silverado 2500HD has not been crash tested by NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet equips every Silverado 2500 with six airbags, a rearview camera, Teen Driver software, electronic stability control with traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Work Truck and Custom models can be equipped with the Safety Confidence Package, which adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, steering-wheel audio controls, a 4.2-inch driver information screen, and cruise control.

Additional available safety features include front and rear park assist, lane-departure warning, OnStar and Chevrolet Connected Services, rear-seat reminder, high-beam assist, and following distance indicator. The main caveat is that the truck’s safety story depends heavily on trim and options, so base trucks are less comprehensively equipped.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds fresh camera technology and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto availability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $38,088, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $39,859 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more current version, the 2021 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2021 updates, the 2020 is the value-oriented alternative.
