Used 2021 BMW M3 for Sale near California

How much does the 2021 BMW M3 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 111 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 a good car?

It is a compelling choice if you want a luxury performance sedan that can be calm in daily driving and ferocious when you push it. The user rating is 3.67/5, and the expert rating is 6.67/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The M3’s appeal comes from its dual personality: it is designed to be docile when you need it to be, yet ready to deliver serious performance when the road opens up. That makes it especially attractive if you care more about driving excitement than everyday practicality. The trade-offs are real, though, including poor ride quality and limited cargo space, and the cost-effectiveness score reflects that tension. Even so, 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 reliable?

The 2021 BMW M3 is built around a powerful twin-turbo inline-six and a chassis tuned for serious driving, so its core mechanical appeal is strong. The expert evaluation also describes it as a car that rewards smooth, measured driving and remains livable for daily use despite its firm suspension.

Its performance hardware is substantial, and the expert notes that BMW engineered the car to maximize engine, oil, turbocharger, and brake cooling. That kind of attention to thermal management is a good sign for hard use, especially if you plan to drive it spiritedly.

BMW also includes a post-crash braking system and a drowsy driver monitoring system, which add useful layers of protection in everyday use. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that this is a high-performance car with expensive hardware, so maintenance history and condition matter a lot more than they would on a mainstream sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance sedan like this can be driven hard even when it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, brake condition, tire condition, and evidence of track use or deferred maintenance. Pay close attention to how the car was optioned, since some equipment changes the ownership experience a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car emphasizes the manual-transmission, rear-drive driver’s-car formula, while the Competition version adds more power and an automatic transmission. The base setup is the one to focus on if you want the most involvement, while the Competition suits you better if you want maximum pace and easier daily operation.
• Powertrain: The standard car uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual. The Competition version raises output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft and uses an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: BMW includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, drowsy driver monitoring, post-crash braking, and BMW Assist eCall with SOS and automatic collision notification. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, extended traffic jam assistance, lane-centering assistance, evasive steering assistance, and emergency stop assistance, but it is only available on the Competition model.
• Infotainment: The car uses iDrive 7.0 with a touchscreen and voice recognition, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is quick to respond, and the voice controls are a standout.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert data says fuel economy drops by 7 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW M3 is offered in 2 trim levels: M3 and M3 Competition.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the one to buy if you want the most authentic enthusiast setup. It gives you the six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, and the most direct connection to the car’s performance character. If you value involvement over outright convenience, this is the best-value choice.
• M3 Competition: This is the better pick if you want the quickest version and prefer an automatic. It adds more power, stronger straight-line performance, and easier daily drivability, and it is the trim you need if you want the available advanced driver-assistance package.

BMW’s advanced driver-assistance package is only available on the Competition model, which is tied to the automatic transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW M3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 111 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,260, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $69,902 sits slightly above last year's $69,400.

That small increase suggests the M3 has remained relatively stable in the used market. For you as a future seller, that means the car’s value is being supported by strong enthusiast demand rather than broad mainstream appeal.

Because the price change is modest, resale performance will likely depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on market swings. A well-kept example with desirable options should remain easier to move than one with heavy wear or unclear maintenance history.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 safe?

The 2021 BMW M3 does not have published crash-test ratings from either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the M3 with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, drowsy driver monitoring, post-crash braking, and BMW Assist eCall with an SOS button and automatic collision notification. The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, extended traffic jam assistance, lane-centering assistance, evasive steering assistance, and emergency stop assistance, but it is only available on the Competition model.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2021 stands out as a true driver’s car, with a powerful engine, a manual transmission available, and a driving experience that is simply fun.

The bottom line: If you want the most engaging version of the M3 formula and value the manual-transmission option, the 2021 is the right year to target. If you are more price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest example you can find and be flexible on trim and equipment so you can maximize value without giving up the core performance character.
