CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 988 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,982.00, 30.3% of 2020 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Toyota Sienna 4.71 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
66.5% of 2020 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Toyota Sienna stands out by making a strong case for the traditional minivan at a time when crossovers get most of the attention. It is described as neither the newest nor flashiest minivan, but it is presented as especially compelling when space for people and gear matters most. Its biggest distinction is that it is the only minivan to offer all-wheel drive, a feature that will matter to buyers who want extra traction in a family vehicle.
Beyond that unique drivetrain choice, the 2020 Toyota Sienna’s appeal comes from the practical strengths that define the segment at its best. It offers plenty of cargo space, standard advanced safety features, and great handling, which helps it feel more rewarding to drive than its size might suggest. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the source notes poor ergonomic design and twitchy steering, so its strengths are rooted more in utility and capability than in polish.

This is my second Toyota Sienna XLE. Love the XLE model, it cruises smoothly on the highway and has the safety features we’re accustomed to. We wanted the 2020 as we didn’t want a hybrid which all 2021 models are, no choice in that. We do wish the backup camera had the yellow guide like my Highlander Limited model but overall we’re ecstatic. I look forward to driving this Sienna until the wheels fall off, literally!

Features OK. Pre-2021 Sienna holds more cargo than any other minivan made in the last 20 years. High priced, but will last 200,000 miles.

The Toyota Sienna is a comfortable, reliable van. If taken care of and I mean regular maintenance, this van will last a long time. I have owned a 2003, 2009, 2015 and now a 2020. I compared it to other vans and they are safe in addition to reliable.

The 2020 Sienna XLE has a nice base package included in the msrp. I think it drives better than an SUV and will get better gas mileage. And the cargo space is larger. Thumbs up on the Sienna

Prices have softened 7.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 1,014 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $26,560.82, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.71/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its smooth driving experience, comfort, and spacious cargo area. Reliability and safety also come through as recurring positives, and the Sienna’s practical family-focused layout fits buyers who need room for people and gear. The main trade-offs are pricing and the lack of some automated features on lower-end models, while the overview also points to poor ergonomic design and twitchy steering.
With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability alongside comfort and safety, which suggests you can count on this model year for everyday family use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Sienna’s practical, dependable nature as a minivan built around space and utility, and its strong handling and standard safety tech reinforce that impression. For ownership, the main risk is less about outright fragility and more about buying a used example with neglected maintenance or wear from heavy family use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Sienna?
At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used for family hauling or long-distance commuting. Pay close attention to steering feel, interior wear, and how well the sliding doors, infotainment, and safety systems operate. Because this model year is valued for utility, condition matters a lot when you compare similarly priced listings.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L comes relatively well equipped, but it lacks the added convenience of the LE’s dual power sliding doors and the SE’s power rear liftgate. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, while the Limited Premium brings HID headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
- Powertrain: All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque through an 8-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined, while AWD versions return 18/24/20.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, dynamic cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is optional on lower trims and standard on XLE and Limited.
- Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 7-inch touchscreen on every trim, with Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, five USB ports, and a WiFi hotspot. There is no larger screen on higher trims, though navigation and premium audio are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive model returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined, while AWD versions return 18/24/20.
Which 2020 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2020 Toyota Sienna is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LE, SE, SE Premium, XLE, XLE Premium, Limited, and Limited Premium.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The L is usable and fairly well equipped, but it misses the convenience upgrades that make the Sienna easier to live with, including the LE’s dual power sliding doors and the SE’s liftgate.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SE is the best value pick because it adds the power rear liftgate, heated front seats, leather upholstery, and distinctive styling without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited Premium is the most upscale choice, adding HID headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a JBL premium audio system, navigation, and the most comfort-focused cabin presentation.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring becomes standard on XLE and Limited trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Sienna?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,014 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,560.82, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $26,890 sits slightly below last year's $29,092.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may be steadier if you buy well and keep the van in strong condition. Because demand remains tied to practicality, well-kept examples should continue to attract family buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sienna safe?
It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Good result from IIHS in many areas, including side crash, rollover crash, and moderate front overlap crash.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, dynamic cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is optional on lower trims and standard on XLE and Limited. The main caveat is the Sienna’s twitchy steering, which makes the lane-keeping and warning systems especially relevant in everyday driving.
Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It remains the only minivan in its class with available all-wheel drive, which is a standout advantage for traction-minded family buyers.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $35,144, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $26,890 average.
- It brings a major redesign with a standard hybrid powertrain.
The bottom line: If you want the best value and the unique AWD option, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you care more about newer design and efficiency than price, the 2021 is the better long-term alternative. For most used shoppers, the 2020 makes the stronger case when you want space, safety, and a lower entry price.
