How much does the 2020 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

With 307 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Prius earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, practicality, value for money, cargo space, and handling. It also stands out as a fuel-efficient hybrid with strong everyday usefulness and standard advanced safety features.

The trade-offs are familiar: the design can be polarizing, and some shoppers may miss luxury touches like GPS and leather seats.

For you, that makes the Prius a strong fit if you want an efficient, versatile hybrid that prioritizes usefulness over flash. With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its practicality, value for money, and fuel economy. That combination suggests you can count on it for efficient commuting and routine ownership.

The expert evaluation reinforces that theme by describing the Prius as a dedicated hybrid that delivers fuel efficiency without sacrificing versatility, and by noting its solid driving dynamics and comfortable cabin. The cost-effectiveness review also highlights strong warranty coverage, including hybrid-component and battery protection.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core dependability and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and condition you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, equipment, and signs of prior repair quality so you do not trade away the Prius’s value advantage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L Eco comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, three USB ports, Bluetooth, automatic climate control, push-button start, and standard driver-assistance features. The LE adds a rear windshield wiper, front-and-rear parking sensors, seat-back pockets, a tonneau cover, and additional driver-assistance features. The XLE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless device charging. The Limited adds adaptive, self-leveling headlights, a head-up display, satellite radio, HD Radio, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen, but that larger screen loses Android Auto support.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with an electric motor and battery for 121 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque, with front-wheel drive. An AWD variant is also available, using a second rear electric motor that operates only at speeds up to 43 mph. The Prius is tuned for smooth, confident acceleration and strong efficiency, with Eco mode offering the best balance.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist are available, so you should check whether a given trim includes the features you want.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi hotspot capability, and three USB ports. The Limited upgrades to an 11.6-inch screen with a split layout and customizable display, but it drops Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Eco trim returns 58 mpg city, 53 mpg highway, and 56 mpg combined. The standard Prius returns 54 mpg city, 50 mpg highway, and 52 mpg combined, while AWD lowers estimates to 52 mpg city, 48 mpg highway, and 50 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the core Prius experience, including the standard 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, and the full set of basic comfort and safety features.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like parking sensors, a rear wiper, and extra driver-assistance content without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfortable and upscale daily driver, thanks to heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, synthetic leather upholstery, and wireless charging.
• Limited: Pick this if you want the most features, including the larger 11.6-inch screen, head-up display, and premium audio-related equipment, but be aware that the bigger screen loses Android Auto support.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and available safety features expand as you move up the trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,066, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $20,661 sits slightly below last year's $20,684.

That small decline suggests the Prius has held its value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to predictable demand and less risk of a sudden drop.

The Prius’s strong reputation for efficiency and practicality should continue to support buyer interest. Its broad appeal as a dependable hybrid also helps keep it relevant in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius safe?

The Prius earns a five-star rating from NHTSA, and the 2019 Prius earned a Top Safety Pick accolade from IIHS, with the same IIHS scores applying to the 2020 model.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Available features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist.

The main caveat is that the Prius fell short of the IIHS' highest Top Safety Pick+ rating because of average scores in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test and headlight testing.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model keeps the Prius’s efficiency-first formula while offering strong standard safety and useful trim variety.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $19,734, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,661 average.
• It is practical, efficient, and affordable, with a revised trim strategy and available AWD.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,986, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,661 average.
• It adds standard Android Auto and broader standard driver-assistance coverage.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and proven hybrid appeal, the 2020 is the smart default. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is worth a look if you want the newer standard tech.
