Used 2020 Toyota Avalon for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2020 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 301 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Avalon’s appeal comes through clearly in its flagship-sedan positioning, its spacious cabin, and its near-luxury feel. It also benefits from a refreshed design and a modernized platform that helped revitalize the car for this generation.

The main trade-off is value: the expert review calls it poor value for money, so you may be paying more for size, safety, and presence than for bargain pricing. It also leans more toward comfort and refinement than excitement.

The market shows 33.6% good or great deals, which suggests there are still some worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Avalon’s reliability case is supported by Toyota’s emphasis on durability, its well-finished cabin, and its straightforward naturally aspirated V6 powertrain. The expert review also describes it as smooth and quiet on the highway, with a composed ride and solid build quality.

Its performance setup is conventional rather than complicated, which can be a plus for long-term ownership. Toyota also includes a broad set of standard safety and driver-assistance features, which adds confidence for used buyers.

For used ownership, the main risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about finding a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base XLE models ride on 17-inch wheels, while Limited uses 18-inch wheels and XSE, Touring, and TRD use 19-inch wheels. The cabin is already upscale, but higher trims add more visual presence and equipment, and Touring and Limited also get a head-up display.
• Powertrain: The Avalon uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway for XLE, with 22/31/25 mpg combined for XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is limited to Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: The Avalon uses a standard 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa In-Car App, and Siri Eyes Free. Android Auto is not available, and Touring and Limited can get Premium Audio, Dynamic Navigation, and JBL with Clari-Fi.
• Fuel efficiency: The Avalon XLE is rated at 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, while XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring are rated at 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE, TRD, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the most affordable path into the Avalon and already gives you the core big-sedan experience, including the 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It makes the most sense if you want the Avalon’s space and safety without paying for extras.
• XSE: This trim adds a sportier look and 19-inch wheels, while keeping the same basic powertrain and tech foundation. It’s a good fit if you want a more expressive appearance without moving too far up the price ladder.
• TRD: This is the most distinctive choice, with track-tuned coil springs and a more aggressive character. It suits you if you want the Avalon’s size and comfort but also want the most performance-oriented setup in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the best-value upgrade if you want more luxury and convenience, including the premium audio system and head-up display. It’s the trim that most clearly leans into the Avalon’s near-luxury mission.
• Touring: This trim adds the adaptive suspension system and also gets the head-up display and premium audio setup. Choose it if you want a more polished, feature-rich version of the Avalon and are willing to pay for it.

Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is standard only on Limited and Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with patience and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 301 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,925, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Avalon’s resale value?

The current average of $27,401 sits slightly below last year's $27,411.

That small decline suggests the Avalon has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply up or down. For a future seller, that kind of stability can be helpful because it points to a market that is predictable and easier to price into.

The Avalon’s strong safety reputation and roomy, upscale character should continue to support demand among shoppers who want a large sedan. If you maintain the car well and keep the history clean, you should have a reasonable shot at preserving value better than a more volatile model.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon earns Good ratings from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, and the Avalon adds 10 airbags, whiplash-injury-lessening front seats, and a tire pressure monitoring system with direct pressure readout.

A key caveat is that IIHS rated the headlights on XLE and XSE trims as Poor, so trim choice matters if you want the strongest safety setup.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 brings the Avalon’s revitalized TNGA-based fifth-generation design and a strong safety-focused package.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,823, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,401 average.
• It adds new tech, more power, and a more modern feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,660, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,401 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, space, and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the Avalon’s flagship-sedan character, the 2020 is the balanced choice. If price matters most, the 2019 is the smarter value play; if you want a newer-feeling big sedan and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
