Used 2020 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearFort Lauderdale, FL

How much does the 2020 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 1.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,427 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and they also highlight comfort, safety features, and off-road capability. The trade-offs are clear: it is not the most modern choice, and some shoppers want more contemporary features and a more polished interior.

For you, that means the 4Runner makes the most sense if you want a durable SUV with a strong identity and real utility rather than a soft-riding, feature-packed crossover. It also shows 34.1% good or great deals in the market, which suggests there are worthwhile listings to chase.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as rugged, reliable, and built for durability, with value retention also coming through as a recurring theme. The powertrain is framed as long-lasting, and the vehicle’s reputation centers on being something you can count on over time.

Toyota’s advanced driver-assistance suite and standard safety equipment add confidence for daily use, while the truck-based construction supports the 4Runner’s dependable character. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting an older-feeling SUV that can ask you to trade refinement for toughness.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one that has seen off-road use. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and whether the truck’s rugged life has left any visible or mechanical damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition. Lower trims come with cloth, while SR5 Premium and TRD Off-Road Premium add SofTex; the Limited leans into comfort with leather upholstery, and the Venture adds 17-inch TRD wheels and a standard Yakima Megawarrior roof rack.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with a 5-speed automatic, and the setup is tuned more for durability and off-road use than efficiency. Expect 16 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, along with strong towing and a powertrain that is described as reliable.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. Eight airbags are standard, though the lane-departure alert is more reactive than a true lane-keeping system.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Bluetooth and Amazon Alexa compatibility. Higher trims add features like a JBL stereo and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined, and real-world testing returned 17.7 mpg.

Which 2020 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner formula without the extra comfort or appearance upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and do not need the added trim-specific equipment.
• SR5 Premium: This is the better-value choice if you want a more livable daily driver, since it adds a step up in cabin materials with SofTex while keeping the 4Runner’s basic mission intact.
• TRD Off-Road: Choose this if you want the strongest off-road focus without jumping all the way to the top-end performance trim. It is the right fit if trail capability matters more than luxury touches.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the best pick if you want off-road hardware plus a nicer cabin, since it combines the trail-oriented setup with the upgraded interior treatment.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialized choice for buyers who want the most aggressive off-road character in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the trim for you if comfort matters more than trail gear. It is the most upscale-feeling version in the lineup and suits buyers who want the 4Runner’s rugged image with more leather and chrome.
• Nightshade Special Edition: This is the style-first choice, with a stealthier blacked-out look for shoppers who want appearance upgrades over functional changes.
• Venture Special Edition: This is the best fit if you want a more adventurous look and some added off-road flavor, thanks to the TRD wheels and roof rack.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, so you get the core driver-assistance suite across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and be ready to move when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,427 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,534, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $34,708 sits slightly below last year's $35,062.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current pricing pattern points to a vehicle that is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply.

The 4Runner’s reputation for durability and owner satisfaction should continue to support demand when you eventually sell. If you buy well now, that combination can help you recover more of your investment later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns Good ratings from IIHS in most crash tests, but Marginal in the small overlap front: driver-side test, and it earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA with three-star ratings in rollover.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. Eight airbags are standard, which adds another layer of protection.

The main caveat is the weaker rollover result and the Marginal IIHS score in one crash test, so you should not treat this as a class-leading safety pick. If safety is a top priority, pay close attention to the specific crash-test results and the way the driver-assistance system fits your needs.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the 4Runner’s rugged formula.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $31,485, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $34,708 average.
• It offers a more old-school, trail-first character with strong cargo space.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,736, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $34,708 average.
• It adds a stronger reputation for reliability, resale value, and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, updated tech, and the 4Runner’s core ruggedness, the 2020 is the smart default. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for a newer-feeling ownership story.
