Used 2019 Toyota 4Runner for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2019 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 1.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,993 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, smooth ride, and spacious interior, and they also highlight its off-road capability and comfort. The 4Runner’s purpose-built character fits you well if you want a rugged SUV with real trail ability and cargo room rather than a softer, more road-focused crossover.

The trade-offs are clear: you give up modern technology and some convenience features, and fuel economy is a weak point. It also makes the most sense if you value capability and durability over the latest cabin tech.

The market shows 35.9% of listings as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership, with many reviewers saying they can count on it for daily use and longer-term ownership. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that its proven components work together well, which supports its reputation for durability.

The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that the 4Runner uses an older, proven drivetrain rather than a newer, more complex setup. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its age and truck-like hardware can mean higher running costs than you might expect from a more modern SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota 4Runner?

At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with off-road use. Focus on overall condition, signs of trail wear, and whether the truck has been maintained consistently, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been used and cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR5 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, smoked-out taillights, under-body skid plates, tinted rear and side windows, and the power up/down rear window, but it is pretty bare bones. The SR5 Premium adds heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, heated front seats, SofTex upholstery, a 4-way power front passenger seat, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and Entune Premium Audio with Navigation. That makes the SR5 Premium the best-value choice if you want more comfort without jumping too far up the lineup.
• Powertrain: You get one engine: a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or available 4WD with low-range. It is a proven setup that helps the 4Runner tow up to 5,000 pounds, but it is also old-school and not especially efficient.
• Safety package: The 4Runner comes with a full array of airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera, but advanced driver-assistance features are not standard. That means you should not expect the kind of active safety suite you may find on newer SUVs.
• Infotainment: The 4Runner does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The SR5 Premium’s Entune system adds navigation and Siri Eyes Free, but the overall setup is basic compared with modern rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: 4WD versions return 17 mpg city, 20 highway, and 18 combined, while RWD versions do 17/21/18.

Which 2019 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner experience with the basic equipment list. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point, but it is the least appealing choice if you care about comfort or convenience.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim because it adds heated front seats, SofTex upholstery, heated mirrors, navigation, and a few useful comfort upgrades without moving too far up in price.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the trim to choose if you want the 4Runner’s off-road hardware, including a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and crawl control. It gives up some comfort content, so it suits you best if trail use matters more than luxury touches.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the sweet spot for buyers who want the off-road gear plus more comfort, since it brings back the Premium features and adds a power moonroof.
• Limited: This trim shifts the 4Runner toward curb appeal with more chrome, 20-inch wheels, real leather, heated and cooled front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
• TRD Pro: This is the most trail-focused version, with upgraded Fox Racing shocks, TRD-tuned front springs, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and unique exterior and interior details.

The safety content notes that the 4Runner comes with a full array of airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera, but advanced driver-assistance features are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,993 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,369, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $31,349 sits slightly below last year's $31,906.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the 4Runner’s strong reputation and loyal following help support demand over time. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, it should remain relatively easy to move later compared with less distinctive SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with three-star ratings in rollover testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety equipment is basic: a full array of airbags, traction control, and a reversing camera. Advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should not expect modern active-safety coverage here. That lack of standard safety tech is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety features are a priority.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for off-road capability, a powerful engine, and plenty of cargo space.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $34,622, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $31,349 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and the 2019’s rugged, purpose-built character, this year makes sense. If you’re willing to pay more for standard safety tech, the 2020 is the better fit for you.

How does the 2019 Toyota 4Runner compare to the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Our experts score the 2019 Toyota 4Runner 7.2/10 and the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6.7/10. The 4Runner is the more specialized off-road SUV, while the Grand Cherokee offers stronger on-road efficiency and a lower average used price.
