How much does the 2020 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 3.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,260 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Forester earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its safety features, smooth driving experience, and interior design, and many also say it delivers strong value compared with rivals. That fits well if you want a compact SUV focused on comfort, safety, and everyday usefulness rather than sporty driving. With 33.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the Forester’s safety, value, and easy day-to-day livability. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for routine commuting and family use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not guarantee a problem-free individual vehicle. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear from daily use. Pay close attention to road noise, interior condition, and how the CVT feels during a test drive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,260 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,402, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $20,724 sits slightly below last year's $21,574.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless you choose a well-kept example. If you plan to sell later, condition, maintenance history, and trim desirability will matter a lot. A clean, well-documented Forester should still appeal to shoppers who value safety, standard all-wheel drive, and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,663, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,724 average.
• It offers standard AWD and practical everyday usefulness.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,787, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,724 average.
• It adds a few extra standard safety and convenience features.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest balance of price, satisfaction, and available inventory. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value play. If you want a slightly newer example and do not mind paying more, the 2021 is worth a look.
