Is the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — 4.9/5 is a strong user rating, and drivers consistently praise its fun driving experience, eye-catching looks, and impressive performance. The 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata also fits well if you want a lightweight roadster that feels modern and refined, with quick steering and a friendlier ride than earlier versions. If you value an engaging weekend car more than everyday practicality, its limited space is the main tradeoff to keep in mind. With 40.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers’ feedback points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free in the ways that matter most to enthusiasts: it delivers consistent fun, strong performance, and a driving experience people want to keep coming back to. That kind of satisfaction usually matters for long-term ownership because a car you enjoy and trust is easier to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially for suspension, steering, and body condition, since this car’s appeal depends heavily on how tight and clean it feels on the road. Focus on signs of hard use, because a small sports car can hide wear more easily than a larger, more practical vehicle.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

If you find a listing below $22,943, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $25,645 sits slightly above last year's $24,695.

That upward movement suggests the market still values this model year well, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. Because prices have risen rather than softened, a clean, well-kept example may hold its appeal better than a car in average condition. Strong demand for a fun, distinctive roadster can also help keep future buyers interested.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 40.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.85% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $25,115, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $25,645 average.
• It delivers sharp handling and strong open-road fun.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,521, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $25,645 average.
• It keeps the Miata’s engaging rear-wheel-drive formula with few changes.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the best primary target if you want the strongest mix of owner satisfaction, current-market relevance, and a still-manageable price. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2019 is the better value play, while the 2021 is a sensible alternative if you want a near-identical experience and find a cleaner or better-priced listing.
