Miata spare tire
I am thinking about buying a 2020 Miata MX-5, but am uncomfortable with having no spare tire. Is there an aftermarket doughnut-style spare tire available?

The Mazda MX-5 Miata endures because it fills a need for simple and affordable driving enjoyment. It’s one of the most affordable sports cars on the road, and one of the most fun, despite its modest specifications. The Miata was introduced in 1990 and is now in its fourth generation, which was introduced in 2016. The 2020 model sees minor feature updates.
The roadster’s exterior design remains sleek and simple, with the major decision remaining whether to stick with a cloth soft top or go for the Miata RF with a power-retractable hardtop. Still, there are a number of new options for 2020. Polymetal Gray joins the paint palette, and a new gray cloth soft top is available on the top trim level.
All Miata models get a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, and a 6-speed automatic is optional, both paired with rear-wheel drive (RWD). With the manual transmission, expect fuel economy of 26 mpg city, 34 highway, and 29 combined; the automatic gains 1 mpg highway and combined. The mid-range Club and top-tier Grand Touring trims, when equipped with the manual transmission, gain a sport suspension system, Bilstein dampers, and a limited-slip differential. Manual Club models can be further enhanced with a Brembo/BBS Recaro Package that adds Brembo front brakes, heated sport seats, a black aero kit with side sills and a rear bumper skirt, 17-inch forged BBS wheels in a gunmetal finish, and, on RF models, a hand-painted black roof.
Three trims are available and carry over mostly unchanged from 2019. The Sport features keyless entry, push-button start, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Club trim adds a 9-speaker Bose audio system, heated seats, and cloth upholstery with silver stitching. The top-end Grand Touring adds leather upholstery and automatic climate control.
A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a 6-speaker audio system come standard in the base Sport trim. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are newly added for the Club trim in 2020, while the Grand Touring trim adds navigation and satellite radio.
The Miata has not been evaluated for crashworthiness, which is typical for vehicles in this class. A reversing camera comes standard. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning are also standard, while adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition are available.
Although the Mazda MX-5 Miata gets only minor updates for 2020, that’s fine, because this minimalist sports car is best appreciated with as few distractions as possible.

I have a red 2020 MX-5 RF Club with manual. Terrific car like all Miatas. I chose the targa top RF because Ive learned from my previous NA and NB Miatas that top down driving was often not practical where I lived. Arizona sun scorched my bald head, and Florida humidity was oppressive at all times. Pennsylvania has been too cold since getting it to try it topless. So the RF was my preferred choice. I looked at ND series Grand Touring models which has many features that I wish I had, but the Club was priority because of its go-kart goodies. On my short list was a Hyundai Elantra N but it was impossible to find one within 500 miles from home, new or used! I liked the prospect of having an N but probably would not have bought it based on styling. Wont know ever. Im happy to be back in an MX-5! It hurts my face from grinning ear to ear.Dec 03, 2023

As most shopping this model the ND is smaller on the inside so space is at a premium. The 2nd generation starting with the 2019 model has a significant increase in power adding to and even more enjoyable ride. I didn’t think the retractable hardtop was as quiet as I would have hoped it to be. While the leather in the newer model Miatas seems to be a better quality, I have seen wear on the seat bolsters on low mileage used vehicles. It may have just been a tight fit for the individual that owned the car prior. I do certainly appreciate all the new electronic features . Lane departure warning, navigation, back up camera is also nice. Still hard to beat the fun per miles in this car. Jul 24, 2023

The car features are great. I purchased it at a very good value. The only thing missing in the car is more room in the front. It is difficult to take off a sweater and the only area to place it in is the trunk! The Mazda MX-5 Miata cannot be compared to any other model. I love the fun in the Zoom, Zoom!Oct 14, 2022

Met my expectations exactly. I already own a 2017 RF GT and enjoy it immensely, but was looking for just a little more performance. So for me this is an inexpensive part-time toy that I can use as a daily driver. See my first sentence above.
To my mind the MX-5 was already brilliant, but I believe Mazda have really nailed it with this particular model (Club trim, Recaro/BBS) as a stock sports car. The increased horsepower and torque are noticeable and welcome, but still don’t overwhelm the chassis—I think they have finally hit the sweet spot on power/weight with this version. The handling is just crisp enough for a car you can drive right out of the dealership and into the canyons, and the balance remains quintessential Miata. We all know you can upgrade this car endlessly and there have been a gazillion really cool cars created by this process. (I also have an NA that my son has tinkered with to create just such.) But THIS car, as is from the dealer floor, is EXACTLY as I wish it to be.
Already done our first of many anticipated canyon excursions, and I defy ANYONE to slap this smile off my face. I cannot recommend this car emphatically enough for a toy you can use as a daily.May 25, 2020
