How much does the 2020 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 3.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,526 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable interior, smooth and quiet ride, and ample power on the highway. They also highlight the luxurious feel and the safety features, which fit well with the CX-5’s upscale positioning.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and rear legroom, along with some wish for more engine power. That makes it especially appealing if you want a compact SUV that feels more refined than typical mainstream rivals, rather than one that maximizes space.

Only 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with many drivers describing it as comfortable, quiet, and easy to live with over time. The expert assessment also emphasizes Mazda’s focus on quality and value, which supports the impression of solid long-term ownership.

The CX-5’s premium positioning and strong owner satisfaction suggest manageable used-car risk if you verify condition carefully before buying.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda CX-5?

At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any interior damage that could hint at harder use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature are the trims named here, and the base Sport is the most stripped-down version. The higher trims add more standard equipment, revised cabin presentation, and more upscale materials, with Signature bringing the most luxurious feel.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and a six-speed automatic, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional. Higher trims add a turbocharged version with much more output, and the turbo model comes only with AWD.
• Safety package: The i-Activsense suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Adaptive headlights are standard on Grand Touring trim.
• Infotainment: Sport trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while Touring adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Grand Touring brings an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and Signature adds navigation, a surround-view camera system, and connected traffic and weather services.
• Fuel efficiency: The naturally aspirated engine is rated at 26 mpg combined with AWD and 28 mpg combined with FWD, while the turbocharged version is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the model’s style and safety basics without paying for extra comfort or tech.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which directly address one of the CX-5’s biggest weaknesses. If you want the smartest balance of price and everyday usability, start here.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds the larger 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and a Bose sound system, making it a better fit if you want a more upscale cabin experience.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is the step up if you want the turbocharged engine and stronger performance. It suits you if power matters more than fuel economy.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with navigation, a surround-view camera system, and premium interior touches. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience.

The standard safety package is broad across the lineup, while adaptive headlights come standard on Grand Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,526 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,185, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $19,707 sits slightly below last year's $20,325.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against future sellers if prices continue to soften. On the other hand, the CX-5’s strong reputation and broad appeal help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Standard LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers add to the safety package, and adaptive headlights come standard on Grand Touring trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model year keeps the CX-5’s premium feel, strong safety, and fun-to-drive character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,508, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,707 average.
• It adds smartphone connectivity and a more powerful turbo option.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,583, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,707 average.
• It brings updated tech and a new trim choice.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and upscale character, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer tech updates.
