overall

Summary
With 153 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,368, 24.2% of 2020 Kia Forte listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Kia Forte 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 9 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Kia Forte stands out as an affordable compact sedan that delivers a lot of room for the money, with space that comes close to what you might expect from a midsize sedan. It also brings the performance character of an entry-level sport sedan, which helps make it feel more distinctive than a typical economy car. The Forte GT in particular is described as a turbocharged sport sedan that is terrific fun to drive, and the car’s German-influenced design and engineering story adds to its appeal for buyers who want something a little more special.
Beyond its driving personality, the 2020 Kia Forte also earns attention for its stylish design, premium interior materials, and excellent value for money. Those strengths make it easy to recommend to shoppers who want an attractive, well-equipped compact sedan without paying a premium. The main drawback noted is the underwhelming base engine, so buyers focused on everyday value may be satisfied, while those expecting stronger acceleration may want to look more closely at the performance-oriented version.

I have the LXS model, this is loaded with very feature from Collison avoidance to lane assistance. Smart mode gets 41 mpg while sport mode provides nice performance at the cost of 21 mpg. Its like I have 2 cars in 1 and if the emblem said Honda or Toyota I would have easily spent 10k more

The car is comfortable and moves well. The lack of fast acceleration is noticeable, but the handling is superb.

Oh wow, I love this car! the forte GT model has everything you would want in a car at a fantastic price and the warranty is out of this world Kia has one of the best there is to offer. The car handles extremely well and has more speed than you really need at times and if your just a average driver that is ok your the pick up speed in any mode is great but the sport is like a rocket. I also love the sound system in this car excellent crisp sound. and the comfort of the seats are very relaxing and heated as well as cooled. you have great visibility with plenty of windows to avoid the blind spots. the out side is stunning with the color contras mine is black and red very sexy. Over all i would recommend this car as of now but I only had it for a week and so far Im in love I find my self running to the store way out of my way for no reason at all just to sit in it and listen to the music and drive.

Unbelievable value. My model is the 2020 Forte GT DCT w/GT2 package. Very peppy engine that has a lot of energy. Endless safety features. Overall style is very impressive and gets compliments from everyone. Its very fun to drive. The sport exhaust sounds amazing and the turbo whistles everytime you pull away.

Is the 2020 Kia Forte a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Kia Forte earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its design, great value, and fun driving experience, and they also highlight the powerful engine, smooth handling, and excellent fuel economy. The overview points to a compact sedan with unusually generous room for the money, plus a more distinctive sport-sedan character than a typical economy car. The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the fact that buyers who want stronger acceleration may need to look beyond the standard setup.
With a market position that emphasizes affordability and practicality, it fits you well if you want a compact sedan that feels more special than basic transportation. The current deal share of 29.0% shows there are still opportunities to find a strong value.
Is the 2020 Kia Forte reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly calling out the car’s value and the confidence it inspires over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Forte’s cost-effective ownership story, backed by a long warranty and a practical feature set that supports everyday use. The maintenance coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers.
For used-car shoppers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained properly and hasn’t been driven hard without care.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Forte?
At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake feel, and how the transmission and steering behave on a test drive. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best maintenance record is usually the safer buy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The GT stands apart with a turbocharged engine, a dual-clutch transmission, a sport-tuned suspension, active exhaust, larger front brakes, and bigger 18-inch wheels. It also adds styling changes and a more performance-focused cabin, while the standard Forte lineup is more value-oriented.
- Powertrain: The GT uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, while other Fortes use a 147-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. The DCT is described as well behaved, and the manual GT brings extra equipment with it.
- Safety package: The Forte is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and includes numerous advanced driver-assistance systems. Standard systems include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist, though the automatic emergency braking works only at lower speeds and adaptive cruise control does not bring the car to a full stop.
- Infotainment: Every 2020 Forte has an 8-inch touchscreen, plus Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a reversing camera. The EX and GT add SiriusXM satellite radio and connected services through Kia’s Your Voice (UVO) technology.
- Fuel efficiency: The GT’s turbocharged setup is described as a performance-oriented trade-off, while the standard Forte is presented as more fuel-efficient than heavier SUV alternatives.
Which 2020 Kia Forte trim should I buy?
The 2020 Kia Forte is offered in 5 trim levels: Forte LXS, Forte EX, Forte GT-Line, Forte GT, Forte GT with manual transmission.
Here's the short version:
- Forte LXS: This is the value-minded step up from the base car, adding a standard CVT, nicer wheels, and a few extras. It makes sense if you want a better-equipped Forte without moving too far up the price ladder.
- Forte EX: This is the best-value trim if you want the richest everyday equipment without paying for the GT’s performance hardware. The expert notes say it is loaded with everything the test car offers except the GT-specific performance pieces.
- Forte GT-Line: Choose this if you want the sporty look without the full performance character. It gives you the appearance upgrade while staying more affordable than the GT.
- Forte GT: This is the trim to buy if you want the Forte’s real performance story. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned chassis hardware, and the most distinctive driving character in the lineup.
- Forte GT with manual transmission: Pick this if you specifically want the GT experience with a manual gearbox and the extra equipment that comes with it.
The GT2 Package is the safety-package note to keep in mind, since it brings all of the Forte’s advanced driver-assistance systems on the GT.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Forte?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,547 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.36% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,676, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Kia Forte's resale value?
The current average of $12,729 sits slightly below last year's $13,593.
That softer pricing trend suggests the Forte is currently a buyer-friendly used car, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy well now, you may benefit from the lower entry price, but resale gains are likely to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the Forte’s value story remains one of its biggest strengths.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Kia Forte safe?
The 2020 Kia Forte earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Forte comes with numerous advanced driver-assistance systems, and the GT with the GT2 Package includes all of them. Standard systems include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The main caveat is that the automatic emergency braking works only at lower speeds, and adaptive cruise control does not bring the car to a full stop.
Should I buy a 2020 Kia Forte or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

- The 2020 stands out for its German-influenced design and the GT’s genuinely fun turbocharged driving character.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $11,498, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $12,729 average.
- It offers tremendous value with minimal compromise as a daily driver.
The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the stronger overall market position, the current-year feature set, and the more distinctive performance story. If your priority is simply spending less up front, the 2019 is the better price-first alternative.
