Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged two-row crossover that brings an upmarket feel to Honda’s SUV lineup. It is described as being just as comfortable on the road as it is on the trail, and its thoughtful interior functionality adds to its appeal. The Passport also has a stylish design and a comfortable ride, which help make it an attractive choice for buyers who want utility without giving up everyday livability.
For 2020, the Passport carries over unchanged. That makes it a straightforward option for shoppers who want the model’s blend of off-road capability and comfort without having to sort through a major redesign. Its main drawback is poor fuel economy, so buyers drawn to its versatility may still want to weigh efficiency against its strengths.

I’m a car guy first and a Honda fan boy second. I’m currently in need of a newish vehicle so I can Uber. I have 2 Honda already a 2005 CRV and a 2006 Element. Both are great cars but have aged out of Ubers guidelines so a Passport may be in my future. The size of the Passport is great it holds 5 passengers comfortably and lots of room for luggage in the back. The height of the vehicle is comfortable to get in and out. During the test drive the engine was strong but the 9 speed transmission was a little laggy but did get the job done once it woke up. This is a known issue that Honda addressed with the newer 10 speed transmission update. My other nit pick is the infotainment system is little dated. The Kia Sorento of the same year has a way better display and GUI. Those 2 gripes aside I do think there will be a Honda Passport in my driveway this week.

I love this car! It is definitely a great value. Even the basic trim package has great features. It is pretty much the same as the Honda pilot but without the third row. Its incredibly roomy, so comfortable, and drives smoother than any other suv I drove.

I test drove an Elite and it has a smooth ride, nice features and user friendly too. I am not sure it is worth the value now with the car prices being inflated due to the chip shortage but if it were a few thousand less, then yes definitely worth the value. I was impressed with the quality of the interior and space. The engine is a little loud when you hut the gas but other than that great suv.

Is the 2020 Honda Passport a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.45/5 user-rated SUV with an 8.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth ride, strong V6 engine, and cargo utility. The Passport’s broad appeal also comes through in its everyday usability and its more rugged, trail-capable character.
The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy, plus concerns from some drivers about electrical issues and an infotainment system that can feel outdated. The Passport’s use-case is clear: it suits you if you want a comfortable two-row SUV that can handle daily driving and occasional off-pavement use without feeling stripped down.
32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as comfortable, spacious, smooth, and useful for hauling cargo, which supports the idea that it’s a vehicle you can count on for everyday duties. The expert evaluation also points to a tried-and-true V6 powertrain and a well-rounded, capable driving character that feels dependable in a variety of situations.
The Passport’s practical design and straightforward mechanical setup should help with long-term ownership confidence, but used buyers should still watch for electrical concerns and verify that the infotainment system works properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Passport?
At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on how the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain feel during a test drive, since condition can vary widely in the used market.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Passport comes in Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The base trim is the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features such as a larger touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, a moonroof, and more upscale cabin equipment.
- Powertrain: Every Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims, all-wheel drive is available, and the Elite comes standard with torque-vectoring all-wheel drive. Fuel economy is a weak point, especially with all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Higher trims can add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
- Infotainment: The base Sport uses a 5.0-inch display, while EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth, a USB port, a seven-speaker audio system, push-button start, and keyless entry are standard, with higher trims adding a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, extra USB ports, a wireless phone charger, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive models are rated at 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value-focused entry point, but it’s also the most basic version. You get the Passport’s core V6 powertrain and standard safety tech, but the smaller 5.0-inch screen and simpler equipment list make it best if you care more about price than amenities.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 8.0-inch touchscreen with wired smartphone integration and a more upscale everyday feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Touring: This trim is the better pick if you want more convenience and tech, including the larger screen and additional available equipment such as navigation and Honda Sensing safety technology for an extra fee.
- Elite: This is the most fully equipped Passport, with standard torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, a moonroof, and other premium touches.
Higher trims can also bring blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Passport?

- Clean inventory: 73.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,265.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $22,722 sits slightly below last year's $24,203.
That softer pricing suggests the Passport has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and hold it for a few years. If demand stays steady, a used Passport bought near the current market average may have a better chance of retaining value than one purchased at a higher point in the cycle.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport safe?
The 2020 Passport achieved good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test and evaluation. It was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. The standard rearview camera also includes a birds-eye view.
Higher trims can add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection. That means you may want to shop above the base trim if those extra driver aids matter to you.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It carries over unchanged, so you’re shopping a familiar, comfort-focused two-row SUV with strong off-road capability.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,839, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,722 average.
- It’s a straightforward, family-friendly two-row SUV with lots of space and a simple driving experience.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,651, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,722 average.
- It adds some additional features while leaning into a more adventurous daily-driver character.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and capability, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a newer-feeling package and can spend more, the 2021 is worth a look.
