Used 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback for Sale nearIrvine, CA

How much does the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback cost?

Prices have softened 6.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 912 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty handling, stylish design, and impressive fuel efficiency, and they also call out improved features and sound insulation over previous models. In use, that means you get a hatchback that feels engaging without giving up everyday comfort.

The main trade-offs are outdated technology and pricing that some owners feel is high for a used vehicle. The overview also frames it as a good fit if you want a sporty, efficient hatchback with practical appeal rather than a compromise.

With 32.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its trouble-free character, improved features, and the kind of long-term ownership experience buyers can count on. The expert notes also describe it as quiet, refined, and well mannered, which supports the impression of a car that should be easy to live with over time.

Honda Sensing is standard, and the car also includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and Road Departure Mitigation. The expert notes do flag that this version of Honda Sensing is aging, with some refinement issues in lane keeping and an occasional false brake event from adaptive cruise control.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the car’s condition and maintenance history match its strong reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback?

At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the accident-free share is not especially high, condition matters as much as mileage and trim.

Pay extra attention to how the technology and driver-assistance systems work in real-world use, since the overview and expert notes both point to aging tech as a drawback. A thorough test drive should also confirm that the car feels tight, quiet, and free of warning lights or unusual noises.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment. The Sport Touring stands out with stitched leather on the steering wheel, soft surfaces, quality materials, and additional sound insulation, but the base trim is where you’ll feel the biggest feature gap.
• Powertrain: The Civic Hatchback uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder powertrain. It makes 174 horsepower in LX, EX, and EX-L trim, and 180 horsepower in Sport and Sport Touring trim, with the CVT or a 6-speed manual depending on configuration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. CVT-equipped versions also add low-speed following capability, while blind-spot monitoring is not included.
• Infotainment: In all but LX trim, you get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and a volume knob. Sport Touring adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, text-messaging support, navigation, a quick-charging USB port, and a 12-speaker premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test car returned 32 mpg in combined driving, and the testing loop produced 32.7 mpg. That supports the Civic Hatchback’s reputation for strong everyday efficiency.

Which 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable giving up the extra infotainment and comfort features found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it looks like the test car, adds more personality, and sits well below the top trims while still keeping the Civic Hatchback’s sporty character.
• EX: Choose this if you want a more comfort-focused setup than Sport without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• EX-L: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale feel in the standard lineup and are willing to pay more for it.

The Sport Touring trim is also mentioned in the expert content as the test vehicle, but the trim roster above is the one explicitly laid out in the model-year details. Honda Sensing is standard, so you do not need to move up the range for the core safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 912 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,449, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback's resale value?

The current average of $19,682 sits slightly below last year's $21,032.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move the car quickly. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The Civic Hatchback’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand when it’s time to sell. Cars that deliver a good ownership experience tend to stay easier to move in the used market, especially when they also have a practical body style and broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback did not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety because of a Poor performance in the headlight category.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. CVT-equipped versions also get low-speed following capability.

The main caveat is that this version of Honda Sensing is aging, and the expert notes call out some refinement issues with lane keeping and an occasional false brake event from adaptive cruise control. You also do not get blind-spot monitoring or rear cross-traffic alert; instead, you get LaneWatch for the right-side blind spot only.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 update brought revised styling, improved sound insulation, and better feature packaging, which helps it feel more current than earlier versions.

The bottom line: The 2020 is a smart choice if you want the refreshed look and the stronger used-market pricing that comes with a softer market. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and target the lower end of the range, but the 2020 is the better pick when you want the updated package and strong owner approval in one car.
