How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 4.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,102 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its power, fun driving experience, stylish looks, and comfortable seats. The overview also points to multiple powertrain options and strong value for money, which helps explain why it appeals to you if you want a performance-oriented car with broad appeal. The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard.

With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on the car’s power and overall enjoyment. The expert review reinforces that this Mustang is built to deliver consistent driving confidence, especially in the way it balances performance with everyday usability.

The ownership risk for used buyers is mainly about condition and maintenance history, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and wear items. Because some listings have prior damage, condition matters more than mileage alone. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely so you know whether the car has the features you want or if you’re looking at a stripped-down example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt stands out with its clean, classic appearance, unique green stitching, white cue-ball shifter knob, and special interior details, while the base GT Performance Package adds structural bracing, improved engine cooling, a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, modified steering and suspension tuning, Brembo brakes, and performance tires. Base-level cars can miss some of the more desirable appearance and performance upgrades.
• Powertrain: The lineup spans a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, and higher-output special variants. Fuel economy for the four-cylinder is 21 mpg city and 31 highway, while the Bullitt returns 14/23/17.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is part of the optional Electronics Package. Advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise limited.
• Infotainment: The car uses a recessed 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The system is functional, but its age shows in slower response.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang delivers 21 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined, while the Bullitt sits at 14/23/17.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the standout choice if you want the Mustang’s retro character wrapped in a more special, enthusiast-focused package. It adds unique styling cues, a distinctive cabin treatment, and a stronger performance personality than a standard Mustang GT. If you care most about the car’s heritage feel and want the most memorable version in this year’s lineup, this is the one to target.

The safety package is limited overall, and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is only available with the optional Electronics Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options but still room to find a strong deal.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,102 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,002, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,418 sits slightly below last year's $26,489.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays under pressure. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment rather than broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still draw attention, especially if they present clean history and strong documentation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2020 Ford Mustang gets good crash-test ratings, for the most part, and earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available with the optional Electronics Package. The expert review also notes that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should not expect a long list of driver-assistance tech on every used example.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its Bullitt-focused nostalgia and strong value positioning.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,492, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,418 average.
• It adds a Mach 1 trim and a more modern-feeling mix of retro character and contemporary features.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with a broader sense of modernity and a fresh trim addition, the 2021 is the better upgrade path.
